Is MIDI so alusive?

MIDI just confuses me, talking to everyone else it seems im missing out on making my life alot easier (drum loops and such) I have keyboards with midi capabilities but there is no input on my soundcard, I have c.w. pro audio9 , so where do I go from here? I sure am happy with the stock HP wdm crystal audio soundcard that is on the motherboard(internal) but i suppose if I have to I could change to another card(but im very cheap). Any advice is welcomed. THank you

Most likely you can just buy a game port to midi cable adapter and you should be set. Open the Control Panel->MultiMedia->Midi and most likely it there says "external midi port" or something like it.

what is a game port? So there is a cable that would be midi on one end and 1./8 mini male on the other? Thank you.

A gameport is where you plug in a joystick or other game controller. Pretty standard on sound cards these days.

Yup. Looks like a serial or parallel port, but with a size somewhere inbetween. Could it be 15 pins? Something like that.

I have found a device called midisport 2x2 by MIDIMAN a little box that has two sets of midi and gos to usb port , heard anything of this?

Sure have, it's a popular MIDI interface, I've got one myself. But it's $80 or so while a game port adapter would be more like $25.

the midi joystick port cable, only works half the time, lots of variables.. always works on soundblaster so far as ive seen, but not alot of others.. the 1x1 or 2x2 midisport is guranteed to work..

No you can't. You don't need to KNOW what a game port-Midi adapter is, you just need to BUY it.

Look, it's not particularily complicated. Call HP, and ask them for where the Game Port is on your particular PC model. If they say "there isn't one" then buy and external USB Midiport. Else buy a Game Port-MIDI cable.

Thank you both (especially the good info from ham on rye) I will just get a midiman since I happen to know there is no "game port" on my pc (dont need to call HP for that and spend 20$ in phone bills)
