I've had dozens of bad transactions for every good one and after one very pleasant one, where I could tell the seller was honest, the equipment still fried after 4 months. No recourse, obviously. There is no doubt, I have lost more than I've gained through Ebay.
But then I don't use Ebay often enough throughout the year to build up a picture which represents the overall, long term savings, which can potentially be gained, through long term usage.
Bad luck can spread out to an acceptable level or it can all come at once, which feels unacceptable at the time.
So ask me in ten years how I rate my chances on Ebay. For now, I remain cautious as ever.
The bottom line is, you WILL get burned on Ebay, sooner or later. It's not a question of IF but WHEN.
