Ah well , i've changed my mind, like i mentioned earlier rokit 8's are little big for me. So i've decided to get brand new rokit 5 g2 , this guy at manhattan is selling a brand new , factory sealed for $200. Its perfect for me and its better if i spend money on brand new than have doubt on the used item im buying as i dont have experience with whats the difference or whats its suppose to sound like.

Unless you're talkin about toilet paper, sure!
:D

... many people buy used. Dintymoore buys no other...
:)
I'm looking around my studio for things I bought new and shockingly there are a few - Jensen mic pre, both my M-Audio keyboards, my T.C. Finalizer, my Summit stuff... but not really too much. I can't afford new! The stuff I bought new was before eBay was around, plus some high end stuff like the Jensen you just never see used - people buy them for life!

But almost everything I have was used. The key is knowing what you're buying. Sometimes you need to buy new if you want something that is new technology and there are no used ones out yet.

Hey, if one side's good I'll give it a try! :o

You do have to think warranty too. A friend of mine wants a Mac Mini and the used prices are pretty high and of course there's no warranty, so in his case new makes more sense.

The second you drive a new car off the lot the price drops several thousand... why not let someone else pay for that?

A couple of years back, there was some controversy over this girl who, in order to pay for her university tuition, auctioned her virginity on Ebay! Whether it was new or used wasn't an issue !! :D

I'd buy a pair of used rokit 8's for $200 if they worked, thats a great deal. I have tons of used gear in my place, if I bought all that crap new I wouldn't have 1/2 of it. CL is a gold mine for deals on instruments and gear. And if you dont like it, you can sell it off for about what you paid for it - and you get to try out a lot of fun toys in the process.

I've never told anyone this before but that was me. (gulp) :(

It was a long time ago, things were different, I was different... time to move on. :) (happy now!)

What kind of feedback did the winning bidder post? :)

That was actually what hurt the most - no bidders, nada, goose egg, El Zilcho.

I'd say you were A LOT different. :laughings:

And I DID send an email to ya. I was the one in the skimpy little pantys.

Remember? :(

I've bought a Great River pre amp, Event monitors, and an MAudio sound card. Never had a problem with any of them.

Check the seller's reputation.

I've bought a lot of stuff used (two interfaces, mics, cables, etc) and haven't had a problem yet. If using ebay, make sure you check the sellers rating and feedback.

And only buy used toilet paper if it's 4 ply. :D

Lol with the rock story , maybe he removed the equipment and then placed the rock after the video.

This is the rokit im about to buy

The look very neat for 3-4 years, im going to his place tomorrow to check out the monitor.

But there is one problem , i've never used studio monitor before so i've no idea what its suppose to sound like or whats the feature. What would be some common test that can be done ?

These are what I use at home. I have had them for many years now. They have never gave me problems in fucntionality.

Looks like I'm going to have problems on my very first eBay purchase of audio equipment. I bought a Marantz PMD620 recorder, paid right away, and the seller has not replied to any of my emails over the 10 days since I paid. He had 100% feedback with ~50 transactions just like me. I might have to file a claim with eBay if this goes on much longer...:(

I use the secondary market a lot, and this was probably a fluke, but do understand that the discount in the used market does come with a measure of risk.

i didnt buy them monitors but i did get KRK rokit 5's for $200 , brand new, sealed box. This is my work station for now. Cramped space but for 16 years old dude this is pretty awesome.

Good score. I buy used most of the time and have had no problems.

Nice setup. Glad you found what you wanted in the end. Hope you enjoy the monitors for many years to come. :)

I've had this happen where there's a long time lapse, but they've always come through in the end. There's usually some explanation that's impossible to verify !

I've been burned on both sides of the coin - as a buyer and a seller.. The default ebay verdict seems to be against suprstar regardless of the evidence. You have to follow a very specific set of rules to be covered by the ebay 'protection' setup. One little deviation and you can go screw yourself  That being said, I've had hundreds of good transactions for every bad one.
