Hey eveyone,

I just wanted to find out user's views on sonar, not to stereotype, but since I deal with mostly Country artist's, I will just refer to that genre.

My question is, do you think it is often or can be often done by using very minimal equiptment to get the same big sounds that you would hear from artist's like Faith Hill, Shania Twain Etc, if so what do you think the key elements are when it comes to using Sonar, aside from the whole great players and all.

What are you tracking with? You need quality sound going in to Sonar that would be a good start. Sonar is not going to replace a crappy sound card or an Avalon preamp. But then after you record into Sonar you have to mix (which you can do in Sonar) and master your work, which Sonar is not a mastering tool. This BBS is a learning center....start doing searches on things you have questions on and you will be spending hours reading. Sonar by itself is not going to do anything magical to get the sound of the artist's you mentioned. Good gear and tons of experience will help.

Read through this entire thread you WILL learn a lot! I printed Sonusman's writing on this and use it all the time. He's one sharp guy but there are many sharp people on this BBS and they are here to help.

Well buddy, SONAR can handle any genre. And not only music. As long as it reuires sound & audio, SONAR can handle them mostly just fine. It's the men behind the desk which is matter...

(beside good musician, good gears, recording tech & knowledge, etc.)..

As for my genre comment, I was only making a pre statement a head of time cause there are those who would jump at the statement I made, not that everyone would, besides, a good producer/engineer will always be open to any work that comes his or her way.

James I couldn't agree with you more, in all reality I try to live by that rule, I trully feel that you can put a somewhat ok engineer behind an exspensive set up and get a far less quality sound then putting someone who is on top his or her game, has an ear, and knows the ins and outs when it comes to tracking and all, me personally I would go with the guy with the knowledge on a lame set up then with someone who hasn't the slightest idea. bottom line is, you are totally right, it's not what you have, it's who you have.

Thanks for the link rage, actually I was just curious as to the opinions, I currently work as a producer/engineer, I have read lately on borads such as this that people will never get that big sound unless they are willing to spend the top dollars, as much as I believe to to be true to a sense it all goes back to agreeing with James, it's not what it's who. With all that said, there is a fine line, I mean if people like ones work then they will come to you, but I am quit sure that a small and less then appealing set up could scare some away, and also, if one can do a great job with minimal gear, then it would only go to show what one can do with the total package.

Anyway I have rambled long enough, but I will end on this note, I agree totally. Thanks!
