BULL!

TO all those who think startin cheap is better, Ya'll OUT YOUR MINDS, thats more money to spend. You said go cheap then expensive, Then say learn how to do it with cheap equipment then with expensive. Might as well, do it with good equipment NEways. How u suppost to learn without trying??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Unfortunately, hot, an experienced recordist with the cheap equipment recommended above could probably blow you out of the water even if you had a top of the line recording studio. Some of the cheap stuff today is pretty good.

If you didn't know how to drive, and you bought a Ferrari, somebody who did know how to drive would beat your ass with an old Ford Falcon (or even a bicycle.)

Again, knowledge and experience will be much more valuable than excellent gear for a long, long time. By the time you know something, then you'll know what you want to buy.

Sorry, that's just life. If you don't want to learn, go to a studio and have it done by a pro - it will be cheaper and a lot better in the end.

Grace 101 $550
Rode NTK $500
FMR RNC 1773 compressor $180

You can easily spend more than that, but the laws of deminishing returns starts applying. The market is flooded with gear right now and we could easily suggest dozens of great preamp and mic combinations. You can get a professional sounding home recording demo with that set-up.

Also- go over to www.macmidimusic.com and look at the preamps and mics made by Great River, Universal Audio (especially check out the M-160 and 2108), Joe Meek, PreSonus, Audio Technica, Shure, Studio Projects, etc. Aquaint yourself with what's on the market and then search for reviews online.

Bottom line- I don't think you would regret buying the Rode NTK. Good luck hottsauce 21

Go out and buy you some expensive equipment,,, go go go run run run weeeeeeeeeeee go get it baby, jerk out that credit card!!!!!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee show'em whats up.,,, show these recording engineers with 20+ years experience how its done, take your NO EXPERIENCE at all, and show them how its done. You can make a platiunium record, Call it Me, and my protools, agianst the world.

And when your back on here under a differant name cause your ashamed that you have a $3000 dollars set up and dont know how to get a good sound out of it, We can all tell you, "I told you so"

P.S Hey man I dont mind helping anyone out. Everyone else is very friendly and informative. But you have to respect the guru's on here that know what there talking about.

Well I guess the SP B1 and VTB1 up your ass at 120mph is the answer then - I think that will make your voice sound just right.

It's definately more fun to have good instruments and gear than crappy stuff. I don't think anybody will argue with that.
No arguement here. However, sometimes a piece of crap will give just the right sound needed. :D

Hotsauce, your question was answered... no?

Then again, if I had all the money I've wasted on cheap gear through the years, I could probably retire in the Hamptons. Or that little town about 50 miles from there..

If your going to be in the recording thing for the rest of your life like most of us will be. Go for the better gear now, if you can afford it.. I think your learning curve will be shorter. It's like learning to play guitar on a cheap guitar.. It's so much easier on a good guitar to begin with. IMHO. But if the recording bug is just a "Flash in the Pan" something your just kinda into now, and probably won't continue throughout your life, then go for the budget gear. Not knocking budget gear, I still have a good bit of it lying around, and in use. I've just wasted alot of moola on cheap stuff, when i should have just saved awhile longer and gotten something better....of course I believe it's a never ending cycle, there's always going to be something better out there, regardless of how much you got to spend.. "Will it never end?" Somebody stop me.. I have $400 left on my Sam Ash card, and it's driving me knuts..lol

Huh

Well, i'm confused, somewhere on here someone said that i could be happy with my voice on a shure - 57m or whatever it is, but i got that mic and it still sounds like my voice was recorded. I also heard i need a Compressor, EQ, and converters or whatever those r to make my voice come out. One said something about an ALL In One Box, Could someone tell me, what kind of box has all those in one?????? also is it good like that or should i just buy all of them separate?????

Thanks

OK, i'm looking to buy a good mic preamp, but when i look at them and read what they say some sound different. I need to know what are some MIC PREAMPS that have ALL FEATURES on them. Or at least alot of features. Also can someone explain to me what they do and everything. I have about $1000 to spend on one, so please could someone tell me what would be a really good one to get to use, so my vocals will come out CLEAN and GREAT. I don't need a lecture saying i need a mic too, Cuz i got a good one, so can someone just fill me in on great mic preamps and describe what they do and what what means.

Thanks

Gee, now I'm confused.

Making good recordings is like learning to play an instrument.

You can;
1) Pay/have someone else to "play" (record) for you
2) Or learn how to "play" the equipment yourself.

How about getting yourself recorded in a local pro studio first?
Then you'd have more of a frame of reference of what's involved.

Be aware that even musical giants like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye
took four to five times as much time producing themselves vs.
having Motown directly produce them.
Which means it would take me 100X! :)
