Hello,
I am new to the forums, and this seems like a patient community to ask some noob questions about. :p
--------------------
What I have:
7 drum mics
Acid Pro 5
Sonar Home Studio
PC with fire wire and usb ports
Guitar and bass
synthesizer
--------------------------
What I am trying to do:
Record 7 mics from a drum set at once into digital audio for my computer so I can edit the seperate tracks in Acid or Sonar. As well as then recording synthesizer guitar or bass over the drum track.
---------------------------
My budget:
500.00 (about)
------------------------------
What i need:
somehting to turn 7 mics of audio into digital audio, with phantom power for two of the mics.
----------------------------
My Questions:
What exactly do I need to record 7 mics at once to my computer and still be able to edit the seperate tracks in acid or sonar?
Will an 8 channel a presonus firepod do what I need?
Are there any other cheaper alternatives?
-----------------------------
I have tried to research as much as i can about mixers and all, so I am not completely hopeless.
Any help/specific item suggestions is greatly appreciated!
People in real life dont have enough patients for me, so I turn to the internet!

I think you would be better off with a mixer and any interface such as the firepod.
The reason why is because you have 7 mics..which is quite a lot. Unless u want to invest into the MOTU ultralite then it would be a good choice, even though it might pull your budget. I say, get a compact mixer, Mackies or Behringer, and then get an interface of your choice.

why would you suggest a mixer? the firepod has 8 preamps and will 100% do what this person is trying to do.

You're not seriously comparing a Behringer mixer with a Firepod?

Even with a mixer, he would still need an 8 input soundcard to record drums.

I say go with the firepod. It will do exactly what you want. I own one & it's great for drums, and anything else.
If you get it here http://www.bayviewproaudio.com/customer/product.php?productid=22446
they'll even chuck in a whole bunch of free stuff

OOPS...extremely sorry guys...i thought he was talking about the FireBox...damn..no wonder i was thinking of it having less inputs/outputs. i was not thinking of the FirePod which has multiple inputs/outputs.

So yes..as they suggested, get the Firepod..it will work well with your equipment.

I've been interested in the Firepod for a loong time ..However a few people have advised me to get a mixer like the Yamaha MG 12/4 and PCI based sound card like the M-Audio Delta 1010 LT ...or a Terratec ews88mt.

This will cost less than a firepod ...however it will not be as portable ..as you can record using firewire connection onto a laptop with the firepod

I called them to see whats up. You order from them and you get the unit, plus two dodgy condensers (Cascade M37....anyone ever heard of or use?) a 4 channel headphone box, and your choice of another heapdhone thingy, an eq, a compressor, or a tube pre that gets pretty bad reviews. Each free piece retails at about $100, so you are getting $300 worth of stuff if you by this cool item from the above link.

I plan to do so next week.

Dont mean to bump a dead thread, but out of frustration.....

I used the net to send my order in. One of the things i liked for that bayview site was that you could pay with Paypal, which I did. Upon completion of my order, they said it failed, but still took my money. Which means that until i figure this out, i am out either 600 bucks or a Firepod.

Has anyone dealt with bayviewproaudio.com before? Are they reputable?

Yeah that's where I got my firepod from. Also got a UAD card off them, both shipped overseas here to NZ, no probs at all. I'm sure they'll sort it out for you
