Into the Bleak - New song pls comment

I usually post songs in the Song writing forum, but as I am now trying to get a decent sound I think it is time to post here for comments as well.

It is a busy mix, but I think it still has clarity and seperation. With the Ac G and synth string providing the chordal basis the rest is hopefully just hooky reinforcement - but I don't know.

I appreciate it might be too bust for taste, but technically is it too busy?

You have a fine mix there, but there are things that i personally don't like so much, like the snare, is like a peace of paper. The acoustic guitar sounds fine, but a little less brightness will make it even better. The drums seems to be programmed, they feel a little robotic...
 
A little bright and midrangy as far as the mix goes, needs more bottom; the song is really good though. Fine vocal performance, brings to mind Elvis Costello and Bowie in places. With a new mix and some work on the drums you'll be sitting pretty.
 
Good song. I can definitely see the Bowie comparison vocally.

The tamborine was a little abrupt and overwhelming when it came in. I like the snare doing the military march-type rhythm, but I'd have preferred it a little closer to the center of the mix; way to the left felt is a weird place for it.

I like the synth.
 
Good song. I think it has a nice mix but just a Tad too bright.

Zero00 With the snare - how might I fatten it up?

EQing the AcG was difficult - I used the Fishman emulator and while it gives a good selection of tones I have found that once you 'committed to tape' add EQing it tends to fall off and either go dull or stringent - there is not much elbow room with it.

I think I am feeding too much of the Tambourine into the verb.

I'm using Ozone 4 for the Mastering and I must say have only dipped into the genre pre-sets - so will play around with the 'brightness' that has been mentioned.

Drums were programmed as I wanted it really tight, but I think I will now go back and do them live.

Nice track!

Hey this is a good song, nice arrangement! Here are my personal thoughts on this track...

The vocals are nice and warm, pleasing to listen to. Might bring the vox up just a tad, maybe 1-2dB. As for the drums; for the snare you might try boosting around 100-300Hz just a bit, cut/attenuate around between 6-8k to get rid of some of that brightness, but not so much that you lose the attack. You might boost a bit of 60Hz & 6-7k (small bandwidths or Q) on the kick drum to add some warmth, and attack. Cut a little bit of the highs out of the acoustic guitar maybe around 6.5k and up, and attenuate the tambourine just a tad.. You might cut a bit of the highs on it as well to give the illusion of distance so that everything isn't up front and in your face. As things move further away from you, they lose high end... So it will help with depth, and help give your mixes a 3rd dimension. What monitors are you using to mix on, do they happen to be bass heavy?
