Interface question

With an Interface I can plug in the mic cables and I would be about to adjust each mic input on the recording program right?

Without having a mixer and manually adjusting, just a firewire 8 mic input interface that would be powered through a power amp.
I have a mixer but it comes with a usb cheap interface that just simply doesn't cut it. It is too slow and and cant keep up the recording quality isn't great either.

Any input on needed things to have to record audio would be helpful.

You would adjust the input level on the interface and you would also set the level in the recording program.

Oops, almost forgot. You ask what you need. Really the only two things you need are a computer and an interface. Most interfaces come with a capable recording program. You also need the input devices, you know guitars, mics that sort of thing.

Depending on the interface there could be some computer hardware considerations. If you have one in mind check the manufacturers web site for recommended hardware. For FireWire interfaces the FireWire chipsets is usually a big one.

I also now looking into getting an Interface am left with the question about power amps and how they contribute to the sound and quality?
I know nothing on power amps.

What kind of amp? Most interfaces have preamps built in so you only need to hook up a mic, line out from fx unit, keyboard etc.
