Im pretty new to computer recording and could realy use some input. I am using an analog mixer with the usual lo z inputs and line inputs. It has inserts and all the other outputs that a typical Low $ mixer would have. I am also using an 8in and 8 out computer interface (echo layla 24). I am currently hooking microphone to mixer input on say trac 1 and going from mixer on say aux out to layla 24 which is then fed to computer via cable. Is there a better cleaner way to get the layla 24's 8 channels hooked up to this mixer so I can mix simultaneous tracks. I only have 2 aux outs is why I ask. Currently I can only record 2 tracks. I am using an old eurorack 2408, they dont even have paperwork on these things anymore. I am looking to buy a new one. Any info on this setup and possibly what type of future mixer to get would be helpful

Use the inserts, but only put the plug in to the first click. That way you won't interrupt the signal flow through the mixer (handy for monitoring), but you will have a direct out from each channel of your mixer.

For future purchases, look for a mixer with direct outs on each channel. That way you won't lose use of the inserts.

Thank You, I will try this. Does it matter which type of 1/4" I use TRS or other? Thanks again.

For this purpose you can use a TS plug but if you need to patch say, a compressor or EQ onto one channel you'd need a TRS plug.
