8 preamps plus 2 1/4 on front(9,10) then 4 more 1/4 on the back(11,12,13,14)
for $219 this sounds like a great deal.

Does usb 2.0 work same as firewire where it can send multiple tracks?
I know usb was only a stereo track.

Yes, you can send multiple tracks via USB just fine.

If you got the Behringer ADA8000 you wouldn't need the Nady preamp as the ADA8000 has preamps built-in. However, the ADA8000 still doesn't have a USB or FireWire output so it will require you to get an ADAT interface to get the output from the ADA8000 to your computer.

I personally think you'd be better off with something like the PreSonus Firepod, as you mentioned in your first post. It will keep you from buying a bunch of external boxes and it will give you better quality since you won't have to do as many conversions and everything will be self-contained.

Add the Zoom R16 in there as well.

do i need anything else really?

I have just built a new computer and with just a desktop microphone some friends and I have been able to record drums and guitar on one track that sounds excellent and then gone back recording voice on a new track. What i want to know is... Is it possible with a sound card that has a mic plug and a line in to record all three at once?

Absolutely. Actually, the Tascam unit (and some of the others above) have 8 or more mic pres... so you could throw 6 mics on the drums, a mic on the guitar and another mic on the vocal and record each to a separate track all at the same time.

That Tascam is looking like a great deal to get started into multi-track computer recording.

I recommend starting your own thread so as not to confuse your questions with the original poster's.

Even better, you could search through the forums to find a thread which already has the answer on it!

Welcome to the forums :)

I'm most likely going to go with the 1641.. why is nobody selling it on craigslist -.--

Craig's list have the same kinda return policy as Amazon where they even pay the return shipping, and overnight a replacement unit if the one you receive is defective. Amazon does.

You can prolly tell I've had a lot of very good experience with Amazon. Want to pass that along. Makes me feel better about the fact that I paid 320 about a month ago if I can pass on a better deal to someone else.

Not tried it like that, and no ribbon mic. Just showing the punters an option mate.

Not squeaky clean, but I've used worse.

Inputs 9 and 10 (1/4 on the front) double as DI inputs for guitar.

So far I've recorded with Cubase, Reaper, and Audition 3.0.

I have mine in a little rack/bag and use it for mobile recording mainly. Great little unit.

No problem Buzzard I was just curious. You need to get yaself a ribbon microphone.

Thanks LSD mobile is what I was thinking with the tascam. What lappy are you using?
