Interface and separate mixer, or an Alesis Multimix?

I have one of the older ones and it sucks for serious recording. I hope the newer ones aren't as noisy.

No parametric, sweepable mids on older model.

Better S/N ratio on forthcoming one (doesn't say what, though).

36% lower power consumption: maybe it will run a bit cooler than the last one??? I did see reports that the old one runs very hot, but I have no experience of it...

...and less significantly, perhaps:

Wider knob spacing. Well I have got big fingers, but then they've been expensively trained to have superior motor-skills over years of guitar practice, so I'd like to think I'd have managed with the old ones!

Removeable end bits - totally useless! I bet no one ever takes them off.

I'm not sure this is an exhaustive list, but that's what I can gather from the Alesis pages.

The parametric sweepable mids - thats the extra mid range EQ knob? I don't really what al the different EQ terms mean  I don't use EQ when I record - everything flat - I EQ if I have to within the DAW - but I know it's important in live sound LOL - as far as noise - I have never had an issue with the 8 or 16 - And as far as heat - well, I leave my 16 on 24/7 for months at a time, it never gets hot... That's just my philosophy for electronics - leave them on. It's the stress of off and on that is hard on circuitry, stuff is built to run (if it's built well)

Murder - you have the original USB one is that right? Not the USB 2 - correct? only dumps the stereo mix down via USB?

Yeah...it's the old silver one. I'm sure the newer ones are better. It's a good little mixer for what it is, don't get me wrong. But I don't record with it via USB.
