Well on another forum, at least one person has now got hold of each of these mics and started A/B'ing...........his initial reaction appears to be that they sound relatively alike.
Re Telefunkens past claims and/or future statements.........it would appear that some of their (marketing) claims were at least bordering on misleading (I'm attempting to be diplomatic here) and their initial reaction to this issue certainly didn't do them any favours. Obviously, they are going to be in major "damage control" mode, what remains to be seen is whether the content of any future "official" statements has some degree of credibility.
Over the last few years we have seen numerous examples of ambiquity by various companies to avoid mentioning the fact that they source from Asia and we have seen a few who blatantly lied. Rode got away with it for years until they had made enough money to eventually start manufacturing here in Australia. What amazes me about this current furore is that I find it almost impossible to believe that 1) Telefunkens management thought they could do this without someone taking them to task over it, and 2) that while the costs of "converting" an Apex to an M-16 on a one-off basis (including a wooden case) would be "relatively considerable", in a full production scenario, the costs of these variations would be close to irrelevant.
