I've been around long enough to know the yea's and nay's of the Big B, but I've been placed in a unique position. The lead singer/guitarist in my band works for the only non-pawn music store in town, and through his efforts the band has received store sponsorship - that is to say, we can get stuff at cost plus shipping.

That's the good news. Unfortunately, their pro sound department is nigh on non-existent, and the only line of gear they carry is Behringer. Of course, for some things, those products might not be my first choice, but there has to be some Behringer products that are worth the money, especially at less money than normal.

So does anyone have any recommendations on Behringer products that you would buy for use in a budget home studio, or for live work? Right now, I have very little in the way of gear other than monitors, mics and cables, so any and all suggestions might be useful.

Thanks.

outside of their mixers, the gear is pretty decent......

lots of people here (myself included) use their compressor/limiter......

Their compressors . . .

patchbays . . .

Direct boxes . . .

V-amp II

Which compressor models? The solid state or the tube model?

I've got a couple of MDX2100 Composers that I like very much. I also have an MDX2000 that's not as good. Other stuff: Ultra-Q Pro, Multiband Denoiser and Ultrafex. Except for the Ultra-Q Pro they're all 5-10 years old. I bought all of them used and they still work perfecty. My MX8000 board is pretty decent, too.

The older non-"Pro" stuff looks more solid to me than the newer Pro-series. So the older non-pro units are pobably a better buy when you're shopping for used gear.

I'd rather go for the solid state stuff. The Behringer tube gear is basically solid state with just a tube stage added. It's not "true" tube technology.

cable tester?

i mean, seemingly what could be wrong with their cable tester, but just wondering! it's SO much cheaper than the Ebtech Swizz Army deal that it looks exactly like....

thanks!

You could buy the Behringer stuff new, keep it sealed, and then
make a profit selling it new at e-bay.
Then buy better equipment from the profits!

Doesn't seem quite fair, does it, to compete with the hand that feeds me?

And don't pay for a Behringer Ultramizer. They are pretty much useless.
