I walk the line
I went to the local Sam Ash this weekend because they were having this big sale where if you bought $400 worth of anything they gave you a free cheapie ac/elec guitar. So I figured, if I could find something on my ever-increasing list of things to buy soon, I might as well get a free guitar out of the deal. Well, the Sam Ash here doesn't have squat and I should have known that but it had been awhile since I'd been there and I thought maybe things had changed. They hadn't.
Anyway, to get to the point of my story, they had a used Agile AL-2000, a gold-top LP copy with P-90's. Almost immaculate condition, but I thought it looked like the fretboard inlay was a touch smaller than it's inset, almost like it had shrunk, but since plastic or pearloid doesn't shrink I guess it was just a slightly less than perfect job. On a real Les Paul it would probably have been unacceptable, but for a cheap copy I'm nitpicking. Now the color of the wood for the rest of the body was pretty off, but I'm kind of color blind so don't take my word for it. All in all, it seemed about like an Epi LP with the exceptions noted. Fit and finish were good, playability was excellent, didn't plug it in so I can't vouch for the electronics. I don't like gold tops, so I wasn't interested anyway, except to have a chance to see an Agile in real life.
Here's the kicker: Used, it was priced at $279. New, from Rondo, it's $159.
I just thought it was interesting.
