Sure!......... :D
And the idea of thanking thru a PM is very cool. I'm not sure why that hadn't ever occured to me. Good idea! ;)

Sam;

Great job recording this tune. Took over a freakin hour to download it on a modem.

My only beef with your mix is that the right side (and I was listening through headphones) was MUCH thicker and louder than the left but I guess with as much as you had going on in this tune, there had to be compromises.

I liked the analog radio tuning at the beginning and in the middle and the wakeup call at the end.

Another really good job, Bro!

Loads of space and muscle on this one, and some nice drumming. That pause around 1.10 is magic.

I like the interplay between the two guitar sounds. I thought that guitar at 2.30 was going to get a chance to speak out a bit...

Nice tune and well done. You're only about one step away from being playable on lotsa people's players. Just a matter of time.

That stuff you tagged onto the end though... it's just stuff, nothing more. It would have been great if it had blossomed into a new song. Suggestion: why don't you turn it into a song? A lilting little ditty with words to ponder... :D

Hey Bro........

I can never get away with an instrumental.. I guess I should have made it more interesting.

...........dont be silly, your instrumentals are great. ........But i hear the space that you are leaving for vocs. And this tune leaves lots of room for melody directions.

.......Re: retiring posts. ...I read the reference you made to one of my threads regarding "retiring posts" in another of your posts. .....And I appreciate the fact that you respected the way that I retired it.
.....but that one was a little different than this one... It got hit hard for about the first week, then started to "Linger". In its second and third week it was just kinda hangin out at the bottom of the page. Someone would occasionally drop an "atta boy" (as you accurately described it) so it never got a chance to die gracefully .....When that happens, it starts to get a little embarassing to respond. Dont get me wrong, I appreciate every response that someone is kind enough to give....... but when my own thread starts to float around like a bad fart that wont dissapate........ well, It's my right to put it to sleep. BUT...... If yours is still getting hit hard........as this one is.......... there is no shame in keeping it up.
I totally respect the way that you are avoiding giving yourself shameless bumps........I really do. But there is no shame in it if you keep getting hits................ Bravo Sam! :)

WATYF - I only have the V-Drum sound module, not V-pads.. Your mind 'is' playing tricks on you.. There are no drum discrepencies.. I am positive the drums are good.. I understand that you might not be able to play that drum beat, or even comprehend it, but the one thing for sure is, there are no timing problems. Someone else would have mentioned it or I would have noticed it..It's o.k. though because it's a hard drum beat to play and I saw a few people try it, and they hacked it.. Keep practicing and listening to different types of music, and this drum beat will make sense someday.. Try not to play always what's expected... I will take it is a very big compliment that you tried your best not to like it, but alas, I can tell you knew the drums were sweeeeet.... and you felt the heat and had to come up with something... you should have looked for something wrong with the guitar, because I know these drums are cool... keep at it kid! :) thanks for listening!
LOL... Boy.. did I ever predict this would happen, in that other thread...
Of course.. then you're gonna have people who's feelings get hurt, and they'll give bad reviews in retaliation to whoever said something bad aboot their songs, and then brutal flame wars will erupt between opposing factions of the clinic and hatred will spew from every post as the entire website falls prey to utter chaos....."
:p Look man.. I'm not tryin' to start some kind of contensious argument here... that was the honest view I gathered from listening. I commented on the beat because I play that style all the time.. it's a very common ghost note that I add to my style, and when I hear it played stiffly it grates on me. Now you can choose to be completely rude and absurd when you reply to a less than favorable review, (you know.. by saying silly things like "maybe some day, when you grow up, you'll be good enough to understand this song" ) or you can try to glean something useful from it. But obviously, I won't be able to comment on your stuff anymore because you've generated some kind of grudge against me. Sorry to hear that. :(

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason you've decided against replying to this thread is because you don't want to have to deal with my responce to your comments. So I don't expect any kind of resolution to this. I'll just be sure to leave you alone. I'm not insterested in starting any petty fights. (no really,... I'm not.. :p )

P.S. I'm still curious, if someone else wants to fill me in,.. if he uses the drum module and not the pads, then what does he use for the triggers?

The drum module was a Roland TD-8 hooked up to some non-v-drum pads..

Pads!;)

Axe4Yahweh - thanks for waiting for that dreadfully long download.. I would be checkin' out far fewer songs if I had to wait that long.. Yeah I had to move things around to get everything to fit, but I guess I didnt balance it well.. I thought I did.. thanks man!

dobro - thanks a lot.. I like the sound of that, "space and muscle" :D I notice that you commented on the drums, I guess you didn't hear any drum mistakes.. I have seen you comment on Emeric's stuff and you noticed things that I didn't pick out right away.. When I saw you commented I was curious to see what you would say about the drums because you didnt have a problem pointing out stuff on other peoples.. thanks for commenting!

Guernica - "a bad fart that won't dissapate" :D I coughed on the screen when I read that! I hear ya man.. thanks!
"no shame in keepin' it up." words to live by.. :D

WATYF - You really are a clown! :D

Thats a hell of a description!:DLMAO!

Sam, I know you want this thread dead...but after a couple more listens I gotta tell you that, regardless whether or not the ear candy survives 10 to 15 listens, the rest of this recording is fucking great. Period.

I'm glad I can amuse you. :p Next time I'll just cut to the chase and post the drum track the way it should be played. ;) :D

Do you really think you have the credentials to post a statement like that based on what we've heard from you?Your music is no-where near the quality of songwriting, recording, playing and definetly not singing than most people here(including sams) so what makes you think you can make a statement like that?I felt it was time for someone else to be honest too.Just wondering whats going on in that head of yours.

oh oh....

I think everyone needs to just piss off and go hang in the mic forum for awhile. Attitude adjustment hour....

See what honesty gets us?!?

I say we go back to kissing each other's butt ;)

I really like this one. I hope its the finished mixdown because I don't think you could improve on it. The panned strings are awesome. Great drums, great guitar. A lot of talent. Good job.

LOL.. first off.. the statement was facetious.. you know.. a joke.. I thought the three big huge smileys immediately following the sentence (not to mention the mock "maniacal laughter") would have given that away...

Secondly.. I was sooooooo right aboot what I said in the other post.. if I keep saying what I really think, every thread is just going to turn into a "whose side are you on" childish argument. It'll no longer aboot what you really thought aboat a song.. it'll be a pissing match aboot who's got the best "cridentials" so they actually have the "right" to make a comment.

And lastly... I'm a drummer.. that's all... I'm not a guitarist.. I'm not a sound engineer.. I don't claim to be able to record masterpieces, and I don't reckon I ever will... but I know a late hit when I hear it.. If I line something up to a metronome and that something doesn't stay in time, then it's "off",.. you can deride me for totally unrelated reasons all you want... but a metronome doesn't lie.
See what honesty gets us?!?

and a big fat AMEN to that... sheesh... I think I should blame this all on Wes... ;) :p He's the one who encouraged me to be so honest... (darn that Wes... :p ) I do believe I'll just go back to saying candy-@ss, nice things instead of posting realistic critiques... :p

clay - thanks for not getting sick by the stench of this thread! :D I do appreciate the listen man..

mixmkr - appreciate your input on this

It is because of honesty... I don't know what you think I have against you.. but I've said it before and I'll say it again... I think you have an amazing guitar sound on this... I wish I could get a sound that full... as present I can't.. I'm not sure if I ever will.. but I suppose that's may just be a matter of time... equally, I think the mix is excellent... and just as equally, I think some of the drum hits were "off", which grated on me a bit...

you can write it off as some kind of imaginary "grudge" if that is how you choose to address it... but I only call it exactly as I see it.

WATYF

P.S. Yes,.. I did post aboot your song before the comment by Wes aboot being honest... the attribution to Wes, as if it's his fault, is just a joke.. a "kid".. a "funny".. :p but no,.. the comment on your song has absolutely nothing to do with your post about MP3 clinic "etiquette". I thought your idea was a personal opinion that I did not share, and that's the extent of it. I'm not going to allow a personal disagreement of opinion effect how I view an individual's music.. and I certainly wouldn't "diss" someone's music just because I disagree with them on a totally different topic.. (and I find your insinuation that I would deeply insulting) But this is all irrelevent.. I've made an "enemy" simply by honestly speaking my mind and obviously you won't believe otherwise, so we should just leave it at that. :(

Now thats what I'm takin about!

First time in the clinic, first time I’ve downloaded anything from the clinic, and I think I just spoiled myself for anything else.

Top banana, man (a term of endearment in Northern England)

Being a child of the seventies in England, I’ve always had a soft spot for Mr. Osborne in all his different manifestations, and as mentioned in other posts his influence is all over your music. No bad thing if you ask me.

Ah….. I remember it well, Blackburn Town Hall, Lancashire, England. About 1970 something. Ozzy comes on stage like some wild man from Borneo screaming “Stab the fucking sky” to which we all duly obliged. Oh happy days, no mortgage, no kids and no brain for most of the time. I remember lusting after that SG with the crucifix inlays, which to a teenager with no brain and a boat load of attitude was just about the coolest thing on planet earth.

Sorry about that, got lost in the midst of time there for a while. Back to your music.
As you can see from my previous waffle, it had the desired effect. As the man said, it’s a keeper and will get burned off to CD for top volume entertainment whilst driving around. This should definitely give the local Arab population something to think about. Somehow I don’t think they’re going to like it, but that’s all the more reason for playing it! If I spot any Arabs head banging at the lights, I’ll let you know.

As for being critical, why bother? If like something, you like it, period.
The quintessential factor with all music is “does it work” and the short answer to that question is a resounding YES. I shall leave all the mixing, micing and levels comments to people far more qualified than me. I enjoyed it, and that’s all that matters.

As for downloading, the full blown VBR version timed out. (I think I used some bad language at that point…….no make that, I DID use a lot of bad language at that point)

The 128 version went OK though, but I would like to hear it in all its glory at some point. Which I will assume aint gonna happen till you get your own site up and running.

Anyway, keep it up buddy.
You got imagination and talent, go where it takes you.

Alan.
