specifically for tracking Bass Guitar ... anyone using these pre's or any other "transparent/clean" type unit with good results? I need to pick up another clean channel in the $500-$600 range that could serve as a good Bass DI as well ... looking for something punchy and not too sterile. Thanks in advance!

I use a True P8 which is just an 8 channel version of the Solo and I'd have to say my di'd bass tracks have never sounded better. Better low end clarity and the overall tone just cuts through the mix so much better than it ever has before.

good to know, thanks

have another question Jonny ... do you find the True performing exceptionally well with anything else specifically? (i.e., vox, acoustic, etc) ...

The Brick rocks for DI'ing bass guitar. Killer on mic'ed bass cab too.

Agreed. I actually have the GT Ditto box I use on bass but was just looking for some other flavors....

Great on acoustic guitar, very true to the source. I'd have to say I track everything through it now and I like how everything sounds vs. the variety of cheaper pre's I always used. I'm actually doing a full blown modern rock recording with it this weekend and I should have some samples ready by monday or tuesday.

You just can't not mention the brick when you talk about bass DIs... that aren't too sterile...

I too have the True Systems P8 and it IS awesome. Let me warn you that the DI on this bad boy is very "True" sounding. I say this b/c it won't hide any mistakes like many amps typically do. I'll also use the RME Fireface for bass, which is much more forgiving, and has a built in amp sim and limiter if you need it (and many bass players do need a limiter in the chain btw).

So also consider a brick or even one of these:
