Inspire 1394 dropping out, preferred settings?

I just got a Presonus Inspire 1394 and cakewalk sonar 5. I am experiencing some dropouts and occasional clicks just during playback. I haven't tried recording with it yet. My questions is, what is the preferred setup? Should I use ASIO or WDM drivers, buffers, latency settings? Also, I'm not sure any of that matters as I am experiencing dropouts when just viewing a dvd or video file. Sometimes the audio will just cut out and I'll have to close the media player and switch the presonus to 41 and then back to 48 before it will play audio again. Would settings I'm using in Sonar cause it to have problems with audio in regular media player programs? Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I'm running a dual AMD 1.2MHz setup with 1 gig of ram and windows xp pro.

Thanks.

check and see what chipset your firewire port uses. I'm having similar problems with a firebox (also presonus) and they said NEC chipsets cause problems. Try a TI chipset.

The firewire card was my first thought too, since the presonus was cutting out before I even installed Sonar. My card does use the Texas Instruments chipset, although, it's about 3 years old. Perhaps it is time for a new one. I tried the wdm drivers and it's just as unstable.

Does the firebox install a service or process that runs all the time, with an icon in your system tray? Mine doesn't and it seemed strange to me.

Thanks for the help, and I'll let you know if any progress is made.
