Are there any such thing as an insert cable snake? I need 8 channels of insert cables to patch my mixer to my soundcard and buying 8 insert cables is expensive.

I've never made cable before, but it seems easy enough. I just buy http://www.markertek.com/MTStore/Store.cfm <how much I need of that. Then 8 TRS connectors and 16 TS. What connectors should I get? Is the cable and connectors the only thing I need to make the snake?

hosa makes a insert cable snake. its 4 insert channels, they run about 30 bucks each, you can find them at americanmusicialsupply.com, just get 2 of them about 60 some bucks no more then a nice 8 channel trs snake

I know Hosa is bashed, but is it rightly so? If I get those Hosa insert snakes will it affect my sound THAT much? I'm using good mic cables I made from mogami, but I'm only using an Alesis mixer. I can understand if you're using a Neve why you might want great cable, but will using the Hosa ruin my signal chain (keep in mind the cable will be used to pacth my mixer to my soundcard, which is a delta 1010)

I for one do not believe that the so und difference can be detected, if any, between Hosa snakes and some other company. I have Hosa insert snakes and Pro Co insert snakes in my studio and frankly, there is no sound difference. What difference there is is more of a funcional matter. Funny thing is that I had used only Hosa snakes and never had a problem. As soon as I switched to Pro Co, I got a snake with a bad connection. It was therefore a matter of returning or soldering. So for twice the money I got ten times the problems.
As far as I am concerned, the big difference is this. Hosa cables have molded plastic ends that do not open. Therefore, if one wire goes bad, the whole sanke is shot unless you want to do a splice job and put on a new end though getting the correct end or the one that is not working properly will be somewhat of a guessing game.
With the Pro Co and similarly situated cables and snakes, the ends open up, are metal and, easier to fix plus you can fix the reusing the original end and do not have to buy a new one.
Soud quality????? This is an individual matter and would seem entirely subjective. If you believe you can hearf the difference, the go right on ahead and by expensive cable. Frankly, if yo8u are on a budget and t yring to save cash, expensive cables seem like an extraordinary waste of funds.

Generally inexpensive cables will only start to be a serious dettrement over longer runs. If you need under 6 feet the hosa difference will likley be imperceptable.
Also if your not real comfortable and experianced with soldering (especialy connectors) I advise not doing a snake cable yourself. Practice on less complicated, less expensive projects first. And always use silver content solder!
