I'm not anywhere near a speaker, but when I am. I'll check them out.

But just a little hint: I'm really curious about the P5-sounds. ;) You know, most of my friends compose with Reason, and I've gotten "used" to the Reason-sound....

Gotta Love PSYN

I'm telling you, PSYN is a great sounding soft synth. And the syncable effects go a long way, too. The included samples and stuff are o.k. I have been mangling them to not sound like what everyone will be doing with P5. I always try to do that.

My 8 year old daughter was going crazy with PYSN just this morning. I've always said that if she likes one of my songs, then it must be good. I guess the same thing goes for synths. You should have seen her with the new Roland at our neighborhood Computers and Music store....

I'm just glad P5 doesn't sound like Reason so I can have a unique sound for the next few months!

Downloading the demo as we speak. Didn't know there was a demo yet.

So I've got Project5, but I have never really done much with soft synths and I'm a bit lost. I have a midi keyboard plugged into a SoundBlaster (for midi stuff) and a Delta 66 for audio. I use Sonar 2.2.

Within Sonar, should I use Project5 as a Dxi instrument? As a ReWire instrument? And... how can I get it to use input from my keyboard?

I know these are basic questions, and yes I need to play around with it more, but I was hoping one of you with more experience might give me a few tips. I perused the manual, but it's not very beginner-friendly.

Thanks,

Fab

I would say use it as a ReWire synth. Then all your MIDI channels needs to be routed to the active synths in P5 (check the MIDI Out-field on the MIDI-track in Sonar). I don't know how it works specifically, but read the manual for both P5 and Sonar and you'll get it....

I have actually found that just plugging the synths or effects as Sonar DXI's works very well. It seems to use up a lot of cpu cycles to use P5 as a rewire slave in Sonar. You can also play the h**l out of the soft synths in P5. Just create a couple/few synth tracks with different patches set to the same midi channel and port (that is how they default) and use your keyboard to play them. I've created some monster patches that way with PSYN.

By the way, you need to make sure your keyboard is transmitting on the same midi channel as the synth is set to receive on.

Does that help?

Or just set the MIDI In to "Midi Omni".

If you already have Sonar then adding Project5 gives you Psyn (a brilliant polyphonic soft synthesiser) and nPulse (Drum Synth) available as DXis. But the pattern seq which is so important in Project5 (P-Seq) a Fruityloops, Acid Pro device etc. is only available in Sonar when you use it as a rewire instrument.

I have -never used- older Fruity Loops 2, and still don't have a clue on how to actually make music with this baby... :(

I dunno, I guess I'm not into Loop that much, eh ? First time I've heard P5 is another clone of FL, I didn't even think wanna try it out. After reading your infos, may be I'll consider download the demo back home... :)

Hmmm... what's the limitation of the demo anyway ?

They have disabeled the Save, Save As and Export functions. It also doesen't work as a ReWire, and the DXi's cannot be used in f.ex. Sonar...

I'm thinking of use it conjunction with SONAR, and the demo won't allow me to do so...? :( Hmmm... I think I'll check if one of my friends has purchased one, and try it out in his DAW.. I'm deeply curious..

Either that, or I'm so stupid that it's impressive that I'm standing up (which might be the case)... ;)

ooooooooo...i heard it and its got some great DXI's...but whats the advantage of using Project 5 as rewire instead of using the DXI as DXI in sonar?

I think JohnHoe mentioned that a couple of post earlier...

the pattern seq which is so important in Project5 (P-Seq) a Fruityloops, Acid Pro device etc. is only available in Sonar when you use it as a rewire instrument.

I think a pattern sequenser is the 16-beat kind of programming. Like you have in FL. Sonar can be used as a pattern sequenser, if you set the Snap to 16-beat. Like this (Project5's Syncron)... :)

ok...so that shit ain't special...they should have a package that just gives u the DXI w/o P 5 program

Project5 is intended for the creation of pattern-based electronic music using DirectX and VST synths and effects. You can play through Project5 using a MIDI controller, or create patterns to play through synths and effects.

The above is taken from the Project5 manual.

I agree with Teacher it has got some great DXis but I don't think its worth buying just to use the DXis.

Just trying P5 on a friends setup. It's great, very intuitive and easy to learn and of course you get a VST wrapper free with it. Which means Sonar can then take VSTs.

Well, Project 5 made the round trip into and back out of my computer in less than 24 hours. There's just nothing in there for me. I record real sounding music, so I can't stand synths. I like to write drums in my drum maps, so I don't need a pattern-based sequencer. I use a layered drum soundfont, so I don't need the velocity drum thing. If I do, I have the DR-008. I'm sure lots of people are gonna love this product, but personally, I have no use for it. And those of you who said it looks like Fruity Loops on steroids, you're pretty much on the money.

Oh, well.............I tried it, didn't like it, and now I know.
