Someone help!

I'm running Cubase 5.0r1 VST32 under Win98SE, on an AMD based PC (1GHz, 512Mb RAM). I use a Soundblaster Live card (yeah, i know, but i got it before i did much music recording...). I have used Cubasis for a while, and that has always been fine. However, now i've upgraded to Cubase, some weird things have happened.

1. There is a huge delay through the monitors on things i'm recording. This never happend with Cubasis, and goes away *for one take* if i change drivers (?)

2. Sometimes the VST effects stop working, but selectively - the 'Insert' fx are fine, but the Sends and Masters just drop out. This doesn't seem to be due to anything *I* do - sometimes they work, other times they don't.

If anyone has any hints, i'd be really grateful, as these problems are really stopping me working...

Thanks!!

My advise...Switch to Pro Tools Digi-001. Heck!! Even PTfree is better than cubase...Thats my 10 cents...My two cents is free...

Hi Tommyp,
I don't know this could help you, but I suggest you to find update for drivers of every audio related hardware you have in your PC.
The problem of effects seems to be very hard, but I think the ones of the delay is related to the ASIO driver you are using. Can you set the Buffer size in the driver settings (you should find it in the "audio system" in some menu) ? If Yes try to decrease it in order to have a lower latency.

Bye.

Go to : http://come.to/sblive and download the APS Drivers.
They're free and they reduce your latency to 8ms.
I originally used them on a Soundblaster Live Value card ,currently using them with a Soundblaster Platinum 5.1,with 100% success.I use Cubase 5.1r1 and have'nt had a problem yet.
Hope this helps - diz

p.s(make sure you completely remove the creative labs drivers and software before you install the APS Drivers)

thanx for the hints, guys! I haven't been able to check this thread for a while as the HR.com server is *always* busy.....

abooganza and pozzoa- cheers for driver locations; i try to keep them updated as much as poss. I have been looking for some new SBLive ones as i think that i *should* be able to use ASIO direct monitoring with this card, but the option is always greyed out - perhaps these drivers will fix this. I have been experimenting with changing the no of channels/buffer sizes (as i see it, as few channels as poss and as much mem per channel should increase performance, but this doesn't always seem to be the case). The fix at the moment seems to be just rebuilding the song until it works. Not very productive!

MartyMcFly -thanx for the free two cents. If you could loan me a few more, mebbies i could upgrade to PT :)

thankyou for the help!
