In your opinion, what is the best, or was the best vocal mic? Regardless of cost

Hi folks, I'm new here so I thought I'd start at the top of the forums and work my way down.

The best mic I've ever owned or used was the Sennheiser MD441U. I cannot believe the quality of the sound that that mic can capture on tape.

I know there are a lot of dynamic mics on the market, but for me, that one is the best.

I don't have any experience with tube or ribbon mics.

Great site.

Well do YOU like the way it sounds?
If you do , then thats all that matters.

Actually I find it to be a little harsh when recording specifically my voice, I'm in the process of experimenting now. I also don't have pre-amps.

Wish I could do like Chessrock and stick it in a tube.

Hey Cyan - I only just started recording vox last week, so it could be a little while before I have any tunes featuring the ELUX 251. When I do, I will put a link up to my site where you can hear some samples.

I hope that he did not use the elux 251 on the CD "seal"

I love the songs, I just hate the vocals. Kinda remind me of Shania twains vocals. Too much high end and a bit small sounding.

They're going to re-issue the original Telefunken Elam 251 for "only"
around $7500 (not sure if it's list or street price).

Yeah, I've heard about this. I wonder who's building them.
