In Your Face Guitar soundings

Do you want an "in your face" sound or do you want a "Gigantic" sound

In your face is midrangey
Gigantic is scooped midrange and turn the volume up
 
This is hilarious. If you want a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and thats the sound you want, then get one. There is nothing wrong with them and MANY albums have Triple Rec's all over them. It really depends on what you are after. Waht the triple rec does well, none of the others will do. Getting a nice outboard pre/eq and a Royer 121 or 122 will be of great assistance to getting a huge guitar sound. With decent mics and pres and a good guitar player with a good guitar, I can get a great in your face guitar tone with most any amp.
 
put the mic up on the grill for that in your face sound--just watch out for the low end.
