Yep.
But you forgot two of the best:Warwick and Fodera! :p
Come on,be reasonable:our buddy shall hardly find a store with so many brands and eventually he'll spend too much time on testing so much axes.
That's why he posted here, trying to get some help and short out as much as possible the choice of a bass.
Your list is nothing more than a list for him,though...

I recommend a Tribute L2000

I've owned Precisions and Jazzes (both American and Mexican-made), a Rickenbacker 4001, a DeArmond Pilot Plus V, an Ibanez Roadstar, a G&L L2000, a couple of Black Rose Customs custom-built basses, and a homebuilt Fenderbird and in all honesty, best bang for the buck is my G&L Tribute L2000.

The Tribute line is the same as the American-made version except the parts are machine cut and assembled overseas. I regretted selling my American-made L2000 so much that I had to get another one, but since I couldn't afford one I took a chance on a Tribute. Well, there is absolutely no difference that I could tell, except one of the toggle switches is mounted vertically instead of horizontally.

G&L was Leo Fender's last design (after Music Man) and he considered it his best. You get a HUGE sound from those gigantic MFD pickups, and switching options galore from the three toggle switches. It's also the most comfortable bass I've ever played. Strap it on and it just becomes a part of you.

The L2000 Tribute is a fine bass (I have one) but I'd say the Fender Jazz is a better bet for a mellow jazz / funky sound. The G&L feels like more of a rock bass to me.

Definately a Jazz!!! In that price range I'd be looking at Geddy Lee's, Marcus Miller's, and KSD's. New or used.

You really can't go wrong with a Jazz or Precision. Try both though as the necks are very different, with the Jazz bass being narrower across the nut, and the pickups on both models sound different also.

I agree with that. You're absolutely right. I failed to read that in his original post.

hilarious..a whole page with guys naming every bass they could ever think of and you missed off a stingray...

Something different....

If it's something different and versatile you are after check out one of these. They look crazy but can sound mellow or metal.

I have the Chaos model in burnt orange...

Check out Carvin. You can get a very nice custom bass, and I think you'd be blown away by the options. You can get different body and neck woods, pickups, fingerboard woods, fret wires, and finishes.

I have an Ibanez TR505 that I really like. I know they stopped making them, but might worth looking in to used. (it's a 5 string but has a really nice sound. I string it high, EADGC)
