I decided to add some keyboard parts to give this some more variety... I would appreciate your help with the mix of this song - any comments, suggestions will be great....
This is a streaming 128K MP3 ..... called In Her Eyes

Thanks to Poeticintensity for the drums and mjhamil for the bass tracks.... :D

EDIT - reduced the strings and piano significantly and brought up the reverb on all but the drums....same link new mix....

you need to change that string-y pad, it's a really distracting and obviously fake tone and it's too loud in the mix!

This ^^^^

Strings way too loud. You've also got a lot of imbalance between the instrument groups. For example, the drums are way roomy and in the back while the guitars, keys, and vocals are seemingly dry and way up front. A little space between the parts is cool, but this is like yall are in separate countries.....and not just because you really were. :D

Gerry, the keyboard line is good - fits the arrangement pretty well but it is a) too loud and b) the wrong sound for the song. That is: it's not close enough to real strings to be used in such a clean, clear song. You might experiment with piano or a B3 to see if those samples fit better. Something obvioulsy not real but with it's own sound may work: mellotron strings are clearly 'tron and have a nice mellow sound (I downloaded 'tron wav file samples from the net &, as I don't have a sampler keyboard, I cut & paste the notes into a track. Most successfully in Gimli's Lament).
Then agin, the song is beautiful & doesn't need anything - perhaps you're adding whewre you need not.
I'm not much help am I? Sorry.
GREAT song. Needs a deft/very sensitive touch to complete I suppose.

Thanks Andrew, Greg and Ray. Very helpful... I reduced the strings and piano significantly and brought up the reverb on all but the drums....same link new mix.... Let me know if this sounds a little better... :D

I think it does sound a little better in terms of the spatial issues, but all of the comments above about the strings still apply. They are lower, but they still don't fit the track at all imho. I like the part that is played fine, but the sound itself isn't right for this.

It's a nice melody.

Thanks heat - the organ patches on my Yamaha DGX305 Keyboard are not great but I could try them out....

I hate to "pile on" but I will. The string sound is kind of dated. It's played well but doesn't seem to sit in the tune. I agree maybe a B3 might be more appropriate. And maybe some reverb on the vocal to glue it to the room sound of the drums. Just my humble opinion.

Nice song ido. I always like the texture to your voice and the phrasing when I hear your work on here.

Agree with the general points about the keyboard lines though.

Well I tried out the organ and other string patches from the softsynth/keyboard and they were blah or too unnatural...
So I'm still considering options....but I think I will keep the piano part....

Hey! Who knows how to load the various synth patches into Sonar 7 Producer synths?
