My new mic (AT4040) says that the impedence is 100 ohms. My pre-amp (Tampa) has variable impedence settings (2400, 1200, 600, 300 ohms). Does this mean that I should be setting my pre-amp impedence to 300 (the closest #)?

Impedance matching- as close to 1:1 ratio as possible. Best for power transfer (like a tube amp. The speaker impedance needs to be close to the output impedance of the amp)

Impedance bridging- Somewhere around 1:10. Best for signal transfer, like mic signals or line inputs.

Typical mic- 150ohms
Typical mic pre- 1500ohms

Typical line-level gear 1000ohms
Typical line input- 10,000ohms

For high impedance passive sources, the higher the better for signal quality.

Typical electric guitar pickup- 7000-15000ohms
Typical amp input- 1megohm (1 million ohms)
