Stompboxes are designed for use with tube amps, they'll generally sound like shit with solid state.....

Um....what?

Um....whatwhat? Do we disagree? This is what I've noticed playing a bunch thru solid state and tube, and from reading interviews with designers.

::Shrug:: only if you care about your tone.
No, really, I've had them, and if you've not got the spare cash, they're useful, but you get a much better tone with real amps.

I've got a very nice sounding tube amp and my Flextone II HD still gets regular playtime. I think Flextone II HDs were Line 6's last real success. Spiders, Vettas, etc. don't do the job nearly as well.

I agree with you there. The Flextones are decent, I suppose, but a bit on the expensive side for the sound quality.

!?!?!??? I paid $300 for mine! But to each their own.

Oh, really? Was it new? Maybe I'm confusing the Flextone with something else. Wait a sec.
Oh, yeah, I am. Sorry. Aaaannyway. The Flextone was decent, and affordable. Still, for $300 I'd be happier with a small tube combo. But as you said, to each their own.

Granted, there may be some pedals that sound alot better through tube amps, but to think that stompboxes in general are designed for only tube amps is silly. Most of the time a pedal just does what it does and it doesn't matter what sort of amp you're feeding it through.

It's not that they're designed only to work with tube amps, and in the case of lower-priced and lower-quality pedals it really probably wouldn't matter much (see: Arion), but usually good effects companies design the pedals with tubes in mind, test them through tube amps, etc. Sure, they'll do what they're meant to do either way, I suppose, but they'll simply sound better through tube amps. Then again, guitars always will, with or without stompboxes.

Haha, that was going to be my next point.....Guitars themselves sound better through tube amps so what's the difference?
;)

Your credibility evaporated like R-11 on a hot summer sidewalk.

If you've read any of my other posts, you'd already know I don't know what I'm talking about :p .

But I think that I was right that tube screamers are designed for tube amps, so there.
