I'm split between who I want to master my album

So for quite a while, I was going to have these guys do what they call a "digital tune-up" for $195

http://whitewaterrecording.com/mastering.htm

At the time that I decided I would go with them, I had very little money. All I really wanted was to maximize volume.

But now I have about 1,800 dollars. 1,000 will go for pressing the album, 250 in a few copyrights I still need to send in, and I still have 550. 550 dollars is enough to get my album completely mastered by Massive Mastering, or Mastering House.

$195 sounds low enough to make it seem as if I could do whatever THEY do for $195 myself. And with that deal there is no eq or compression etc etc

So what's your opinion? Should I spend a little extra and get a more full-service mastering job? Money isn't the issue anymore so if that's the better choice I'll do it.

Does anyone know Mastering House's rates? They used to have them up but not anymore. I need 9 songs mastered.

Anyone have any personal expirience with Massive Mastering and/or Mastering House?

Thanks!

I won't choose between the two, but I can tell you that either of those guys is a real pro with trained ears and real seasoned engineering sensibility. Oh, and they have the real gear and rooms too. In short, you'll not get better for the price than you'll get with either Tom or John, and you'll get *far* better than you could if you did it yourself.

As far as rates and other stuff, why don't you ask them yourself? You can PM or e-mail them right from this board. Or even better yet, there's a brand new invention called "the telephone" which in most ways that count, works even better than the Internet for information exchange and retreival between two people ;) :D. Not the least of which being that it's also a great way to get a "feel" for who you're dealing with while you ask questions, which can help you decide who you'd rather work with and who you'd rather have work on your album.

It *appears* as if the "Digital Tune Up" is just leveling, sequencing and burning.

For $375, they'll use compression, limiting and EQ.

ah, yet there is the age-old problem of studios NEVER ANSEWERING!!

Thanks for the help

The point is that "I" don´t want what this "mastering engineer" calls "platinum service" for 375$ .´Cause the "service" of somebody that offers a "digital tune up" for "any" price never will be "platinum".

I do :)

Just contact me via the website address below and we can talk further.

Both John and I can do an outstanding job that will fit your budget IMHO.

So I'm assuming the question, then, is which is better option between Tom and John?

First off, both of these guys are too classy to bash the other guy, and too humble to say they're better.

Secondly, no one here is going to state a preference for fear of offending the other guy ... since, guaranteed, both guys are paying pretty close attention to this thread I assume.

Good luck getting a good answer to that one. :D

there's this guy, named Walters, that lurks around here.

Ask him to do your mastering for you

:D :p :)

Actually, the real guy who the Walters alias belongs to ... probably could do a fairly decent job.

:D

yeah prolly. if you want your mastering to include 36 envelope filters. :D

The only envelope filters that Walters has any clue about are the post office zip codes  .
