Bored of Canada
I want to get to work on an e.p.
And I want to get it professionally mastered. No use in trying to tell me "mastering plug ins are cheaper, blah blah, diy." I've told myself that and still want to get it mastered. Legit style.

It'll be no longer than 30 mins or it'll be no more than 4/5 songs. whatever comes first.
I cant attend sessions, so it'll need to be through the internet obviously.

My problem is that I don't really know where to look. I welcome all recommendations. Im not really looking for someone to master the thing right now, im just looking for people to search through to weigh the options. Whether it's users of the site, or Tom Baker (the only mastering engineer i know). I just need to expand my options/ mastering place vocabulary. As long as they're legit. Not the guy with the plug ins charging 20 bucks to "professionally master your project" (though i probaby wont be able to pay more than $500-ish... probably not even that much :(...let me dream)

yeah, i ramble

help:confused::):o

I know this one place...

And there are a few others that you might find hanging around these parts also.

... I know this other place ; )

...but seriously from the user feedback I've heard for John, Tom at Master House and myself your search should no longer be difficult.

Hey, thanks a lot for the help.
I'll look into all 3 of your services a little more in depth and probably will end up going with someone from the site here.
I actually spoke with Tom from masterhouse a really long time ago. Before I was even a member of this site actually. I'm not sure what happened but somewhere along the way the conversation just stopped... I think I may not have had anything to receive a snippet of or something like that :p

Check out finemastering.de ask for Jan...

He did Joeym's CD and the first 9 tunes on my Soundclick page (which will be a CD soon).

Try the shower. I've mastered in the shower so often, I'm surprised a baby hasn't crawled out of the drain yet.

I've been waiting by the phone all of this time too!

Look in the phonebook and support your local economy.

Try a few different studios out. Most will give you a free sample of their work. Then you can see which engineer/studio your ears agree with.

General advice for not getting ripped:

Avoid sites with "tech style" based graphics and zero photo's who suggest they are using "state of the art digital equipment", lol.
And most importantly room should be shown, do not be overly drawn in by flashy decor (note difference between acoustic treatment and decor) you won't hear decor on your master, but you will be paying for it.
Check for pics of serious monitoring. (not bookshelf speakers)
Get a free preview master if on offer.
Check engineers career history and recent clients.

Agree budget, aim and fire !

All the best whoever your choose : )

cheers

Barry
