im having trouble with my output jack like always have to twitch and like turn on my output cable when i play on my yamaha dx7!
do i need to resolder or just use contact cleaner on the output jack? and how should i apply contact cleaner if thats the way and how should i safely resolder the output jack if thats the trouble?

please help if you got any tips! im a novice here so be gentle with me!

I am going to assume it is not the cable? I speculate you probably have a bad solder. It could be just as simple as reheating and making the contact better. I would think contact cleaners since the cable is going in and out keeping oxidation build up not being an issue.

There are a few others on the board who are really good with electrical and will provide either verification of what I have said, or better information.

Definitely not the cable! Yeah it loses connection if it’s not in a really specific position and it gets lose constantly when I play! Thank you so much! I would love a step-by-step-holding-my-hand-type of walkthrough if anyone of the OGs in here could lend me a helping hand ❤️

I don't know about that kbd but it is a common but bad practice to mount jacks and other connectors directly to the PCB and not secure then to a metal chassis, thus the strain from a cable eventually "wiggle-wiggles" the joints 'dry' and you get a bad contact. I have a laptop with a similar problem with the headphone jack but since I only ever use it with an interface if I want external sound I can't be arsed to have it apart!

Your main problem will I think be in removing the score of screws that infest such kit in my experience!

I shall ask elsewhere on your behalf for more info.

Dave.

I am assured by a couple of guys over at soundonsound.com that the DX7s are "tank like" and not much trouble to get apart unless you are dreadfully cack handed!

"Soldering" I know much more about, IMO don't just "re-melt" the old solder, use wick to remove as much as you can and then re-solder with fresh stuff. Do not use Lead free, good old Tin/Lead 60/40 Ersin multicore is best.

Dave.
