I'm considering getting a micro korg...

But one thing is putting me off - apparently it only runs on batteries? Is there no output for mains?

Are they worth the cash?

I play in a rock band, and would maybe use it to incorporate in recordings, and maybe live too. Any thoughts?

Eeeep... Ok - yeah I just saw you can use a powerpack. Eeep... I guess it would be a design flaw without it.

On a different note then (to give this topic some kind of purpose) - is it value for money? Any good/bad experiences? Interested to get some feedback from those who have used one.

I intend to give it a go at my local dealers... but still... other advice is good.

If you are using it for performance i would strongly suggest an MS2000B keyboard instead of a micro korg. It has a step sequencer and real keyboard and alot more real time controls. Other than that it is exactly the same sound engine as the micro korg.

I personally found the microkorg a pain in the ass to program because of the lack of controls , I hated the 1 big button for all thing . Pretty much the same deal as an old Moog source. ;)
 
So the MK has a learning curve for programming then? Or is just more long winded? Or generally not as good as the MS2000B?

The only gripe I've ever had with my MS2000R is that it's only 4 voices. That's certainly enough for a single-voice keyboard performance but not enough for any kind of multi-timbral work.

I still use my MS2000 for a whole bunch of stuff and for live work you always have the option to sample one voice and play another from the synth itself.

I have a MicroKorg and absolutely love it. I do agree that the small keyboard might not be great for live use but I think the programming is relatively simple providing you understand the purpose of each control. I have 2 friends that also have one and they make extensive use of it - much fun to be had. You can also use it as a controller of course to drive software synths.
 
another synth you may want to take a look at is the Novation x-station .

It has a complete VA k series synth built in PLUS midi profiles to be used as a controller for other equipment PLUS mic pre's (that arn't particulary great) PLUS usb interface for midi and audio streaming PLUS it comes in 25 - 61 key sizes PLUS the keyboard has a particulary nice feel to it PLUS its very cheap, only slightly more than a microkorg and it completely kicks it's butt. :D
 
Cortexx nice product but since when is twice as much equal not much more :)
 
im thinking about getting one too. i like it because its also a vocoder, and it kinda has an analog look to it.
