got the condenser mic, got the keyboard, monitors, and interface now aside from the monitors nothing else works...what the hell is going on?!?!

I use cool edit pro 2.0 to record and they (m-audio tech support) told me I need to configure my mic and keyboard into the softwear so how the hell do I do that?!?!

if anybody knows please help a fella out before I go crazy!!! :(

You leave out a lot of information that might be able to help us help you, like what's plugged in to what and how...

I'll hazard a guess or two:

You say you "got the condenser mic..." but you don't mention a preamp. Mics require a preamp and condenser mics require a preamp with phantom power. (Perhaps your "interface" has this builit-in -- if you told us what you have, we could tell.)

You say you "got" the keyboard too, but again, how is it wired to the interface? Is is a MIDI controller-only keyboard (that is, has no sound of its own) or a full-fledged synth with on-board sounds? (If we knew what kind of keyboard you have...) Did you connect its MIDI cables to your interface's MIDI port (if it has one), or are you plugging the audio outs into it? (Again, if you told us what you have, much of the mystery and guesswork would be removed.)

Finally, you say, "they (m-audio tech support) told me I need to configure my mic and keyboard into the softwear," which makes no sense, so I assume you are paraphrasing what they said without understanding it. Again, all we can do here is guess untli you tell us what equipment you have.

Yo my bad AlChuck and thanks for taking the time to reply...here I go again

I recently purchased a soundcard (omnistudio usb) as well as a condenser mic which the soundcard provides the preamp for it {phantom power}, keyboard, and a pair of monitors...

The monitors work and I'm able to control their volumes from the soundcard, I also get a sound from the keyboard (synth) but my recording programs are not recording the beats or my microphone and that's the problem

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.1 and/or Sonar 3 and I'm not too computer friendly so here's how I got it...

is it a MIDI controller-only keyboard (that is, has no sound of its own) or a full-fledged synth with on-board sounds? (If we knew what kind of keyboard you have...) Did you connect its MIDI cables to your interface's MIDI port (if it has one), or are you plugging the audio outs into it?

I actually have two keyboards but both have no on-board sound, the MIDI one is connected through the USB to the computer and another pair of large face cables go from the soundcard to the MIDI and the synth keyuboard is connected with XLR plugs to the back of the soundcard.

"they (m-audio tech support) told me I need to configure my mic and keyboard into the softwear," which makes no sense

Those were the exact words told to me, meaning I need to set my programs to pick up these sounds basically telling it (my recording software) that there's a souncard with mics, and keyboards now but that's the problem I don't know how to go about that. If you can direct me the right way I'll appreciate it very much, anything else you need to know just ask. THANKS!

EDIT: onother thing I forgot...I have two mics/instruments input in the front of the soundcard with individual volume controls and all that well I plug in my HAND HELD mic and press RECORD in CEP and all I get is a recording from the left side????? I'm suppost to get a recording from L & R so this is very weird, once I plug in my condenser mic and push the phantom power button nothing happens...

I use M-Audio Delta 66

There should be an M-Audio icon in control panel, mine is also on the taskbar at the bottom. You probably need to make some changes in there before the inputs will work. There are different options for line in, wav out etc.

Another one

Is that the only sound card in the computer? I had an issue where after I installed my Delta 66, Cakewalk was set to my default sound card. I had to make the changes in Cakewalk I think, or I removed the original sound card.

Once I installed the soundcard all set ups where automatically changed and yeah it is the only soundcard...:(

A friend of mine said to me when I asked him how he records his beats that all he did was plug in his keyboard to the soundcard open cool edit press record and press play in the keyboard and cool edit simply records the beat...without doing anything else.

see I can hear the keyboard looping but cool edit nor sonar are recording anything not even vocals!

I'm thinking my connections are all wrong so if anybody can walk me through this I will appreciate it cause at the moment being I'M UNABLE TO RECORD :(

You actually have to tell the track that is armed what input its supposed to look to for its audio so that you only record the input from the card instead of other tracks that might be playing back. Look under the record select button.

SoMm

most probably that may be it, but again I'm pretty stupid with things like this so I don't know what's what or what goes where

as far as Sonar manual goes...all it says is plug the condenser mic into the mic input and that's it lol
