could someone give me the things i need to record? like a soundcard, mixer, mics, etc.

advance thanks to all.

The most important thing you need for recording is knowledge. You could have the best equipment in the world and still sound bad. You need to know what is available and how to use it. You need to decide what it is you want and then do it. This BBS will give you pretty much all you need to know or a link to it so read, read and read some more.

The simplest computer set up is mic->preamp->soundcard->software-> monitors. You should already have some mics, preamps(on your mixer), a soundcard and some speakers for your computer. You will probably be needing a better soundcard and some good nearfield monitors(speakers) first but how good depends upon what you want to do and your budget. You can download free software, shareware or demos off the net for starters to get going. Read up for a few weeks at least and when you figure out what you think you want then repost your current equipment and your desired purchases with your budget and you'll get plenty of advice and great opinions on the direction you're heading.

Welcome to the BBS, have fun and good luck!

hey here's how we started out...

throw a mic on anything you need to record...
your mixer should have a line out, pipe that into your sound card. record everything as a single track. this will require you to set your levels on the mixer before hand, experiment. if you have a small budget, try the maudio transit usb interface (lists for $99). it will give you above cd-quality capture of your audio, but still only as one track so you cant go back afterwards and tweak a cymbal, or add an effect to a guitar track...
