This has been in my Live Act for a few years and I always get a GOOD reaction whenever I have performed this particular Cash song. What's your favourite Cash tune?

I'm in denial, it didn't happen, I don't want this to happen.

HevyD,

I checked out your rendition of Ring of Fire.

A fitting tribute to a true legend and nicely played and performed as well!

Ring of Fire is my all time favourite Cash tune.

Besides the original and now yours, I also love how Frank Zappa covered the tune before he passed away.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Cash.:)

I put on some tunes in memorial this afternoon and the ones I found myself reaching for were the gospel stuff. "Lead Me Gently Home", "Were you There When They Crucified My Lord", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee."...etc.

He just gets *inside* those tunes.

Seeya John. It's been good.

His music was real. We lose some honesty with his passing. We shouldn't wish that he rest in peace. Instead, I'm hopeful he's showing Jimi, Janice, George and everyone in the jam session up there how it's done. Enjoy forever, Mr. Cash.

I performed this one with my brother a few times this summer.....we did this recording a few months ago.........'Long Black Vail'.....i'm pretty sure it wasn't even johnny who wrote it, but his is the version that introduced me to the song..........didn't plan on posting it, but given the circumstance...........one of my favorites

Nice postings, guys!
I join your mourning and I salute your respect and admiration. Johnny Cash touched America - and much of the world - in a way few people could.

I really do like the people on this board - you're truly unique, both individually and as a group of dedicated musicians.
Thanks, folks

I just listened to your posting there.
I was VERY touched with that one.

I love "Sunday Morning Comin Down"....

And every other song Mr. Cash has ever graced his voice with.

I think I'll take a shot at recording that tune, though...

It is a sad thing when those we grew up listening to pass on. Johnny will be missed by many including me. Sunday Morning Comin Down... I recorded that in 1986 on 4 track just for fun. I've posted it at http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2124&alid=-1 for tribute. It's not a great recording, and I'm a better musician with better equipment now... but it is a tribute.

The song I want to cover now is "I Still Miss Someone"

kjam22........

That was greatly entertaining, thank you for that rendition and reminding me of Johnny's real spiritual side.

Hey Hevy,
It doesnt sound like this calls for a critique as much as a big pat on the back for paying homage to a great man. He's gonna be missed ....thats for sure. Its really fitting that he went out on top w/ "Hurt". Ive never been a country guy, but he was an exception. ...the man was a stud!

Great stuff Hevy!!

Man, the band is NAILING that back beat !!! Sound like coonasses cher ... but dey kick all dem out canda yeah ;) .

I'm glad I listened to this, because somethin' been buggin' me ... (NO , not buggerin !) ,

I was developing a young artist in Baton Rouge, god that can make you feel old ... anyway ... he had this crooooonin' song, and the verses started off exactly like this song ... now I know, he either ripped of Johnny Cash, or he was so strongly influenced by him ... and neither of us new it.

So which is the better bullshit story ! :D

Great performance ... hey ... was the stage like FLExInG ! with that backbeat or what ! Man RaWk ON ! with yer music sir !

A fine tribute to the legend. The man in black is probably smiling, knowing that his legacy lives on in musicians like yourself.
And you did rock it out pretty good though!!!!

I even loved that guy's Folger commercial...:(

Great job, Hevy. A great updated tribute.

How soon before you're playing again?
