Reel deep thoughts...
I was in a reggae band for several years. I love classic dub. I like vintage analog. Now, here they are together in one great tasting youtube video.

Ampex 440 reeling in the background, and what kind of mixer is that???

I love the way Jammy's hands dance on the mixer as he does his thing...

I wanted to get into doing dub reggae live, and I found this video as a result of my interest... This was about a month ago, and I bought a space echo, that has been in the repair shop since...

Anyway, while were on the topic:
What is a good small mixing board that has at least 2 master aux sends or effects sends? I will need one to do my thing (one for reverb, one for delay).

In that video, you can see how he adds reverb to the snare at 0:27, he dials it up only for the snare shot, and then quickly dials back down. Cool stuff.

Hope my dubbing is successful. Thanks for the vid.

I like the guys in the back looking on in approval.

Thanks for the gem, sweetbeats.

Glad you enjoyed it fellas...really good stuff. Its impressive to see King Jammy working. There is clearly an art and knack to it.

Rene, how many channels do you need on it? How portable do you need it to be? What's your price range? You want new or is used okay?

I was always pushing for breaking things down dub-style when I was playing shows in the reggae band I was in...never could get enough of it. I always knew we were doing it right if the rastas at the show were stepping to da riddim. Buncha white guys playing reggae...challenged from the beginning, but we got it right sometimes. :D

I'm going to be using a 4 track tascam reel to reel with prerecorded riddims, running into a mixer (of some sort) I need 2 aux/effects outs, for both Tape Echo, and then another for spring reverb. I want it to be at least generally compact, and affordable as well if possible, new or used dont mattah (i like the older stuff). Right now i'm using a small behringer 6 channel mixer, with a single effects send, which works, but doesn't let you use different combination of effects... help me out.

A Tascam M-308...3 sends configurable...great sounding, great features for live and studio, analog VU's...just a great board. 4 full-featured subgroups...would be great with a 4-track. They're not tiny, though I was able to pretty easily tuck mine under my arm and go but my arm barely got around it...40 or so lbs I think.

For something a little newer, smaller and lighter though still very full-featured (but a bit compromised for live work) would be a Tascam M-1508. Still 8 channels, 4 groups, more plastic (i.e. lighter) and more compact.

But oh the M-308 would certainly look the part while you smack those reverb pops...

Hey, thanks for the help.

I just found this TOA mixer in town, it has a specific "ECHO" out on it, could be useful, tell me what you think...

That is a pretty sweet mixer, though it depends on what the seller wants for it. That is pretty old and you can expect some TLC needed. If you want two effects sends for delay and reverb this mixer doesn't have it. It has one effect send (the ECHO send) and two monitor sends but those are typically fixed pre fader and you want post fader.

Its neat but somewhat limited.

I'm just a young guy, but one day I dream of owning a 4 track 440 (or 8). Did you know that chess records ampex console is being sold on ebay right now for 100 for transport and pres. My favorite kind of music is old R&B, the gear all those great hits were made on... tempting. Here it is.

That's $10,000! They'll never get that.
