im looking for a new console... i have about 2500-3000, maybe more if i can find a good deal. i have been hearing a lot of things about a lot of boards... this is my question. do i go with an older board and try to get more board for my buck, but risk having to make lots of repairs, or a newer board? im not interested in anything digital, or mackie for that matter. ive been thinking about a soundcraft 600, a ghost... anything, i dont know. ive been hearing good things about allen + heath boards... but other than that its all up in the air. im looking for something with good pres, a nice warm rich sound. thanks in advance for your help.

Which is more important....Sound quality or reliability? I have seen several DDA's, Soundtrac's, Allen Heath's, Amek TAC's in that price range. Also, how many channels do you need? Are tape returns a necessity? Whats the rest of your recording chain look like (mostly are you using a DAW, and if so, how are you using it? )?

ive never heard of sound workshop... having some trouble finding info on the web... what do you know?

I believe that Otari "absorbed" soundworkshop about 8 or 10 years ago.
