what capsule should I buy if I'm on a budget and want to get the mk012's... I know there are three... which would be most useful for recording overhead for drums/acoustic guitar or mic'ing a room

Most come with the cardioid capsule. That's the only one I have, and I use mine for drum OH's and acoustic instruments with no problems.
The omni and hyper are a little harder to find. I don't have any experience with them.
From what I understand, the REAL killer capsule is the LOMO LDC head. But it's expensive. And hard to find.
But Harvey Gerst likes it. A lot.

As far as I know the single cap MC012 only comes with a cardioid cap. You can later buy additional caps from the Soundroom for $64 each.
