I'd Like To Say Thanks

I haven't been a member for very long, nor do I have a bunch of posts or rep points. What I do have is a burning desire to talk about music with other musicians; art with other artists; literature with other writers. I haven't been very active on the board for the last few weeks because I have been busy finishing up my web site content, booking my winter tour, and recording two albums.

These albums have zilch to do with me.

As I have said many times here on the board, I am a low fi guy. I don't care that much about production value. But I do have insatiable curiosity about why artists do what they do, so when I came across this board I wanted to know why.

That initial question has exposed me to some amazing music, some amazing musicians, and a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks to you binary vampires and brilliant guides who allowed me to enhance what it was I was trying to say. I'll post both albums here in the MP3 clinic for free before I sell 'em (one especially is the dear to my heart low-fi style that the MP3 clinic allowed me to embrace), and hopefully I can meet some of you guys on my tour that --as of now-- is running through August of next year from Seattle to Nashville.

I agree with you about this place. We might be here for different reasons or not, but I've learned so much since gingerly tip-toe-ing in here, reading for a weeks, and then hesistantly posting a tune for the first time. Now, I HAVE to post whenever I have something new because I know how much better it ends up once I get feedback from people.
Also, for the amount of knowledge and talent here, I find the egos are kept in check pretty well. In fact, I find the people that come in here with the worst attitude usually have the least knowledge and talent. Many of them don't really present what I'd call "music", since they don't really PLAY anything (if you know what I'm saying) and usually don't stay around for too long.
I also find that most crtiticism is constructive. There are only 2 or 3 people who's posts I don't even bother reading any more because they spend too much time criticising others while always praising or defending themselves...But that's only 2 or 3 people out of the 100's who are very helpful.
This place is a gold mine.

I will concur, The Mixing Clinic is the Shiznit!!! Or, at least a cool place to hang out. I've had tons of fun here, both listening and posting. And doing collabs with people is a blast. Very valuable info here, from some very good, and knowledgable people. I've only had a few bad experiences in here, but been helped so much. That makes this one of the most valuable tools here. You hear something good, you can ask teh people how they did it, and for the most part, you get a good answer that offers some great insight into music making. And, many great people just to BS about music with....

Yeah I agree with everything you three said.
This place rules I've only been here two months, but I was pleasantly suprised to find a whole bunch of people who love doing what I do too. I've been addicted to writing music for years, but I never really did much with it before. Now it's awesome to be able to share with people and get the chance to hear and help with what everyone else is doing too. I appreciate everything and can't say enough about how much I've learned in here from you guys in just two months. There's so much talent here and that inspires me to try and do more and improve and take musical snakes to new heights

& the collabs are a blast too.

Well right now I'm working on booking the area in late August. I have to be back in the Washington State area in early September to play the a certain folk festival in Washington state. I'm going to do a big push that will kick off early summer at another folk festival in Washington State in May. The push will culminate at Writer's Night at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville in mid to late August. I'd be more specific about the dates (and will be able to as it draws nearer) except Writer's Night at the Bluebird is a pretty popular affair so there is a chance that I will get bumped to the next week.

Sorry to be so cryptic about the dates and venues but I am still negotiating alot of this so I don't wanna announce things that aren't stone solid yet, or in some cases I don't want to announce anything before the venue does. The purpose is to promote my album that should be done late this year and hopefully generate enough buzz in folk/alt country/roots/Americana circles that I can get booked at South By Southwest in 2007.

For those that care my website will be done this week and I'll start posting dates on a calendar there pretty soon after.

Well, all I can think to say is that I'll never get over hearing My Pretty Ones. I'd trade any guitar or recording chops I may have for the ability to write and sing a song of that quality.

Sorry, I missed that Rami. What I meant was that I would not have began recording them had it not been for this board. I was pretty content being a sometimes live songwriter who was disgusted with the mainstream record industry.

At least I thought I was.

After discussing the merits of production value and sound quality I decided to see if I could maintain my vision of minimalist [thanks Tim ] production but incorporate the respect for the listener that I gained hangin out here. I just would never have thought about recording had it not been for this forum.

Thanks Tim. That means a lot cuz you have some serious freakin' chops.

I dunno if anything will come of me giving it a shot, but I decided that I'd hate to be ten years down the road doing whatever still wondering if my songs were good enough to go to the big time. I had a sea change sort of event happen earlier this year that inspred me to get back on the horse and you guys have helped me get back in the saddle.

I know that I have the ability to write good songs. I just decided that it was time to put my ante on the table. I'll let you know how I make out.
