Hi,
I've not posted in this section before... This site has proved such a valuable resource for me, I figured I'd give you a listen to what I've been working on. I think I've got the pretty good but could use some input from people with actual studios and more professional experience than myself.

So any input would be greatly appreciated.
the Project's name is 'Pillars'. I played everything and recorded it all in a modest bedroom setup..

Pillars - Snowstorm

Cubase sx with a waves plug bundle. Wharfedale monitors and a delta 1010 for an a/d. dmp3 preamp.

easy and smooth. the snare was a bit strong in the first movement. I wouldnt complicate anything in the arrangement other than use a couple of harmonies on the choruses and the vamp at "call....." and let them softly repeat. With the simplicity I wouldnt clutter it.

The vocals seemed a little boom at times in my monitors. Besides that it's sweet. Really smooth sounds.

Typing while listening.

Great vox sound, what mic/preamp is this!? The guitar sounds a little too loud and boomy to me, snare lacks a lot of bottom end, and could move back a little, with more nice reverb to smoothen it.

Beautiful song and great great performance. Overall the mix sounds quite ´professional´to me, all the frequencies are there, nothing really annoying, except that the strong snare (as I said) every measure pulls me back from my ´lounge-mode´, it´s too agressive.

I love this.

no monitors - i'm at school - listenin on some sein hd280pro's...but I think this sounds really nice. I agree in wanting to know what mic/pre is on everything....what card you usin too? (if you are..ha)

the vox i think are pretty breathy but they sound awesome like that.

on my phones, snare is sittin alright i'd say....

the only thing I'd maybe change is add some high end to the instruments or maybe even take some off the vox. cuz the difference between them are harsh in comparison to me.

but by the way, this track rules. ha.

maby more reverb on the snare??? maby a longer tale??

the hi's on the vox jump out at me sometimes...... i'd run a de-esser on it and find the sizzle and use it to cut down on it a little (or any old freq dependant comp)

love the git sounds.
the rest is awesome.

I'm digging this. I agree with cutting the higs on the vox down a bit.

Good work. Great song.

great!

I really appreciate all this feedback. its so useful...

I've been so focused on getting the bass guitar and bass drum balanced. I have a less than ideal room to mix/record in so getting things just so in the bass end have been a hassle. 8 trial mixes before this one hah.

I will try the highs on the vocal, I think that might actually get them to sit a lot better.. on some systems i've been thinking they were a bit loud an di know that taking down the 3k or was it the 6k range a bit can make a track seem overall quieter.

I'll take another listen to the snare drum too.

I'm also glad to hear that the Left electric guitar is too loud. I was afraid of that myself and I'm happy to hear that maybe my monitors aren't just tricking me... I hope to move the whole thing to a new room in the next 6 months but who ever knows.

as for my setup...
i thought i'd posted that at the end of my post but I'll be more specific..

Signal Chain.
Cad M179 for vocals and acoustic
That goes through an M-Audio DMP3 Preamp.
preamp goes through an Alesis clx440 digital compressor. It's not the best but I use it lightly anyhow and it doesn't seem to color things.
Then through an M-Audio Delta 1010, 8ch a/d. soundcard. it's a rackmount unit.

That's pretty much it... then into Cubase Sx and it's all digital from there.

I should be able to post another mix this weekend, it'd be great if a few of you wouldnt mind letting me hear your thoughts on the corrections..

2nd try...

Ok so I found the time to get the mix up again, i took some of the suggestions and this is what i came up with... if anyone wants to take a second listen that would be just great !

thanks so much
