Hi,

In the sixties my friend's father worked for Ampex. His house was crawling with open reel stuff. At the time Ampex open reel was the best hifi you could get. They had a reputation and they worked to maintain it.

I have been looking at some vintage Ampex mics on ebay too. Often these mics were bundled with an open reel recorder. My guess is that while they may not spec out like modern mics they probably sound really good.

Oh cool! Wish this came with an open reel recorder. Yeah, I won't be using it for a lot of stuff, but for $17, I figure if I can find one really good application for it, for just a couple tracks, I've easily got my money's worth.
