Ha

If I wasnt flat broke in Nashville at NAMM I would have picked up the one you offered me...but it never seems I have the money when I need it :(

options for quick money....

-sperm bank
-blood bank
-plasma bank
-sell a kidney
-trick out your girlfriend/wife/mom
-blow a trucker at a truckstop

seriously, a mic is such a personal issue that if you can only have one, you have to hear your voice thru both and choose which one you like and fits your voice.....i guess im not really telling you anything you dont know.....

if its for more than one person (studio use?) i think the c1 adapts to a larger number of vocal styles/tones than the 4033......ive heard quite a few clips of vocals with the 4033 that I really didnt care for...Ive never heard a C1 clip that I didnt like......

But Id seriously consider the Marshall MXLv67....Ive used both and they sound so similar I couldnt tell the difference.....experienced ears (like Harvey Gerst) picked up very little difference.....and usually you can pick up the Marshall at least $70 cheaper....a few people here have gotten Abes to match Mars price of $149.......

LOL@ Gidge's options..Save money{150.00 V67} and keep the 4033 its great on guitar amps..And it will give you different colors for vox too
my 2cents

Another option would be to get a Studio Projects B1 when it comes out
and that will be way less $$ than the Marshall! Plus you're contributing
to the fortunes of one of our "homeboys" (if Alan will forgive me!) when
you report positive feedback on his mikes.

P.S. Alan, do you have a guesstimate on the B series arrival?

I want to trade my AT 4060 for a Manley Gold Reference or a pristine Neumann U67. Any takers?

I know it does not make sense, but send me your 4060 and I will send you a v67, thats right, a v67 right away.

Why would anyone want to trade away a 4033 -- it's such a useful mic???!!!

I'd keep it if I were you.... save up or use Gidge's suggestions to buy your C1...

A couple he left out - the ever-popular drug-dealing, and the fairly lucrative male prostitution.........

What ever happened to mowing lawns and collecting pop bottles?

I'll buy your 4033. Whatta ya want for it?

The 4033 is a total workhorse.

You might like the C1 better for vocals but it doesn't have the -10 db pad or hi-pass filter(bass roll-off). I might be biased because I've used the 4033 on almost everything and like it. If you record acoustic guitars definitely keep it. The C1 is affordable so just save up until you can buy it. $229 ?

You can never have too many mikes. BTW- the 4033 is not a small diaphram mic.....despite what you may have read.

Wide Awake,

The Audio Technica ATM4033/SM is a 15mm back electret (pre-polarized) condenser mic. 15mm is about 5/8", which puts it in the smaller than 1" diaphragm league (and 7/8" is usually considered the minimum size to qualify as a "large diaphragm" mic).

Hmmm... which mic are you referring to Harvey? There's an AT4033a/sm (and the AT4033SE - same mic - special edition: different accessories)

And then there's an ATM33a - which is a small-dia cond....

There isn't an ATM4033a mic in their current catalog though... or is this an older model?

Wow Harvey, I didn't know that.

See, I have a 4033 that I have barely used, because I have other mics I prefer. I like my NT2 for vocals and electric guitar, My Earthworks TC30k set for acoustic, and sometimes overhead drums, my C1000's when the Earthworks just dont sound right, and an Apex 430 sometimes in place of the NT2.

I want to trade my AT 4060 for a Manley Gold Reference or a pristine Neumann U67. Any takers?

That doesnt really make sense, because I am offering to trade a more expensive mic (about $50-70 street, it looks like) for a less expensive one, soley because I NEVER use my 4033 and I knew that lots of people liked it, and I wanted to try a C1. I could buy one if I wanted, but the 4033 would still be doing nothing. So it seemed like a very fair trade to me.

H2H, Tell you what .I've got a E100 that I'll trade you when I bought it I paid $340.00.About 4years ago it is in perfect shape. It has done a good job on some vox and it really does a great job on percussion{hand drums ect}it has alittle more body than the C1000 for that job..Or if you what I'll trade you a V67{Mars model} and i'll throw in some cash{$50.00}..it is in good shape..

Bruce, I'm refering to the ATM4033a/SM and the SE version; it's a 15mm diameter, 2 micron thick diaphagm, back electret capsule.

I apologize.

H2H,

You're right, and I was out of line with my humor. At the very least, I should have acknowledged that you were making a serious offer for good reasons and in the direction of generosity toward anyone who took you up on your offer. Then, perhaps, I could have indulged my humor. I did not intend it to be disrespectful, but I actually woke up in the middle of the night and realized I had been rude. Man, I'm sorry.

Humor is difficult on the internet sometimes. When someone asks, "Does a XYZ really sound like an ABC," my first perverse response is to say, "Only when you drop it." Stuff like that. But usually I have sense enough to also show some respect for the person's question, and to give a useful answer in addition to cracking a joke. I regret that I didn't with you.

Forgive me? I'd be pissed if the shoe were on the other foot, and that's not the way I want to be.

Hi Harvey,

Quick question if I may since we're on the subject of Audio Technica condenser microphones? Do you know the diaphragm sizes of the AT 4047SV, AT4050 and AT4060 by any chance? BTW I absolutely LOVED your educational series on mic polar patterns...utterly amazing information for people who thirst for knowledge! Many thanks and kudos to you, Harvey!

Mark-

Dont feel bad, its cool with me. I have read your posts and you're a good guy. I just didnt want anyone to think I was stupid :).

No worries H2H... no one will think it -- we all already KNOW! ;)

:D
