Right, so everything's going dandy... except the sound is only coming out of my left speaker. Granted, it is a nice clear sound... it just tends to make the left ear buzz after prolonged exposure. I've got the stereo adaptor plugged in, tried "mixing down" to two tracks (Music Creator 2003), and messed with the windows audio control beyond comprehension.

So... what should I do?
Tell me if you need more information.

Thanks.

What kind of soundcard do you have?

What kind of monitors?

Have you checked the ables?

Have you checked the adaptors?

Do you need new cables or adapters?

It might be the soundcard itself?

Enlighten us with some more info. ;)

Peace...

Soundcard: SiS 7012 Wave
- I was told it should be sufficient for my simple needs (recording me and my guitar, putting it on a cd).

Everything is brand spanking new in the ways of adaptors (1/4" stereo phone jack to 3.5mm stereo plug) and cables (XLR). I did not skimp in that area. I don't know what to check other than the fact that they're plugged into the soundcard, which my computer claims is up to date and functioning properly... I've also got a little audiobuddy pre-amp named Fritz.

Im not familiar with music creator but in home studio you have options of choosing stereo recording, left channel or right channel. Do you have the software set to record stereo?

Yeah, to the best of my understanding I've got everything selected for stereo. I also tried two tracks panning one right and the other left. And from what I can see, Music Creator is a really really primitive version of Sonar. Maybe I'll call Cakewalk's "help" line. I'm just thinking it's not the program because it won't record in stereo for Soundforge either. There's something wrong with my setup.

Keep in mind that I'm explaining this as if you are using SONAR, not Cakewalk...

I think that maybe you are not telling Music Creator to record in STEREO.

So..................

After you ARM the track for RECORD do this

Select IN>(then press the drop down box)>(choose your soundcard)>(then press that drop down box)>(choose the stereo option of your sound card).

Peace...

Yup, everything's been selected like that already... So this morning, something dawned on me.

Could it only be recording in mono because I only have one mic (SM57)? Perhaps I should get another mic... for my guitar... yeah. Would that fix the problem? *sheepish* Or is there some way I could convert mono to stereo after it's been recorded?

Edit: OK, so I uh... did something... with the volume for the "stereo mix" on the windows volume control and now it's sort of picking things up for the right one, but really really softly. It's up to max. How would I make it louder?

A good wave editor with convert mono to stereo. Dunno if Cake's got a built-in. I think there's a shareware version of CoolEdit that'll do it if you need it.

Hooray! Thank you. I found a program. Consider them converted.
If I could give you hug, I would.
