i'll have the rnc at my door step on the 6th of february. i'm hoping i made the right decision. i read a lot of reviews giving it very high scores. i'm disappointed only that it doesn't come with a built in gate. i'm not trying to have a long chain going. i'm going to have to rely on my waves c1 gate, but i have a feeling that someone is going to tell me that a hardware gate is much more better.

i have this one problem. i have a mackie 1202 mixer(not vlz). i have my mic running through it with 1/4 cables going to a lynx one sound card. in order for me to hear myself and the music while i'm recording i have to run a 1/4 cable analog out from the computer to this art preamp, which has the headphones connected to the out put. at this time the vocal line in on the mixer is turned up as far as it can before clipping begins. the problem is that in order for me to turn the vocals in the head phones up the music has to go up also, because i can only turn it up coming back from the computer.

when i turn it up i also get feed back from the mic and headphones, plus a lot of headphone leakage.

what the hell am i doing wrong?

do i need to get a fader, bigger mixer?

where can i pick up some headphones that prevent leakage, something like circuit city i hope, but if not where?

are you using the board to mix more than 2 channels down to stereo? if not, you're set. run from the first two Inserts on the back of your 1202 (just push in the plug to 1 click) into your soundcard. turn off input monitoring in your control panel, and run the soundcard output back to one of the stereo channels on your mixer. plug your headphones into the mixer.

the signal from the Inserts will not be affected by the faders, so you can use the faders to adjust your listening level, and the soundcard will never see a volume change.

if you do need more than 2 channels of input on your mixer, you could try recording from the Aux Sends. don't know whether those are pre- or post-fader, though, so it could get sloppy.

you can get headphones at a lot of places. i bought my sennheiser HD280s from www.headphone.com, and i'm loving them.

cool

i'm not mixing down two channels so hopfully i'm in the money. i'll get right on that in the morning. it sound like it's going to work. thanks. i'll also check out those headphones.

i too read rave revievs of the rnc and ordered one.
it was the biggest pile of crap! i sent it right back!
just my opinion.

oo oooh

thanks maskedman, now you have me not wanting to answer my door when the ups person comes. i have to do some more research.

can u explain y u thought it was crap?

when i first got mine i thought it sounded like crap too till i found the settings to use, people say its transparent...it is to a certain extent but there's some sort of flavor it adds to the vocals that i like making them sound not as thin...
