What is the purpose of setting all of my tracks to different I/O settings ie L R.

Are you talking about I/O settings or panning?
I/O settings deal with where a track is getting it's input and where it's sending it's output. If you are seeing a L/R option it is probably a left channel/right channel on your soundcard. You just need to select whichever ony you have your input or output plugged into. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not what you're talking about tho......
