A good matched pair of small diaphragms (this is a mic forum, right?) is very nice for acoustic, as you have described. I use a matched pair of Octava MC012's, with an MK319 over the left shoulder. Many here have had good results from Marshall MXL 603's. Actually, the Neumanns aren't that bad, pricewise. Stateside, you can get a pair of KM184's for about $1300 or less, if you talk fast. Studio Projects C4, about to be launched, is likely to set a new industry standard, more versatile than the 603's, cheaper than a good matched pair of 012's, and a lot cheaper than the Neumanns.
I've never used the NT5, but I've read positive reviews. Anyway, I have a little bit of a weird theory. Certain design teams just like certain sounds, and if the mics were developed/produced during the same time period, they often go together well, as in my 012's with the 319. My AKG C2000B went very well on guitar with Solid Tube on vox. I wonder if the NT5's and the NTK might not just get along well.-Richie
