Maybe I should start recording on my puter and I don't really know a thing about how to go about it.
Here is my present systerm
Gateway Pentium 4, 3.2 ghz with 504 meg of ram 200 gig hard drive 7200 rpm

standard sound card.

I don't have much money to spend and I have all the outboard equipment, some mics, two boards etc. I have two adats that I could possibly use the converters for ins and outs?

I would need a cheap software package and some kind of way to get in, in other words
What the hell do I need? I would like to be able to record a drum set with maybe five mics?

you need reaper and a firepod or alesis io26 or something

but definitely reaper :)

What is reaper? A software package? How much? How much is the firepod or alesis io26 and what are they?

You get Cubase Le with the Firepod, it can record up to 10 tracks simultaniously.

Then all you need to do is search this forum for free vst effects or instruments if you need them.
there`s loads of fun freebies out there.

Kvraudio should be a good place to start looking for vst`s.

Didn't you quit music and sell your gear last week?

Looked up firepod, 500.00 from sweetwater, that is 500 I don't have right now.
Would have to sell something or try and find a used one.

is there anyway I can use my adats as I/O converters for awhile, what would I have to do to get them off the ground?

How many in/outs do you need?
I think you can buy soundcards with ADAT in's so that might save you some dough.
I'm assuming the existing soundcard is not an option?

the existing soundcard is not and option. there are 8 converters on the adat so 8 I/Os would be preferable.
