One of the guys in my rap group moved to miami, and in a rush recorded 8 bars for his intro on our album, and i have no idea how the vocals came out so terrible but as of right now, we cant use it...

and i cant get in touch with him because his phone is disconnected..and we want to move foward so we can get this album out in may!

but if anyone thinks they can clean up the wav...please help! ive tried and have had moderate success, but enough to use it on the album!

i will upload the wav to yousendit and post the link!

Doesn't sound as horrible as I expected. Do you have anything like soundsoap or de crackle or whatever its called? It may help but it may not. I have a project I"m working on where the into clean guitar distorts, I said fuck it and left it like that. You never know someone might hear it and say "hey man how'd you get that vocal effect." I'd say finish the project and see how it works. That or maybe layer in your vox behind his or maybe try some verb to see if you can hide any of the noise.

thanks for responding

we've been trying it in the mix...and its just drastically below par compared to the other verses..

and its for the intro to our album....its 4 of us, and we are each rapping 8 lines and each of our lines go into the next persons lines...it just doesnt work...

ive tried anti crackle and hum on waves platinum...it helped substantially, but i thought i could find someone much more versed in audio manipulation to make sure its the best we can get it!

Yeah those are really bad. My god...were the hell was the pop filter. Who ever did this really needs to re-think there gain structure.

Good work Harvey.....

There really is not to much you can do to it.....

If I were mixing it, then I would just work with the distortion rather than try to correct it. Basically, make it in to an effect. Try cutting cutting all the highs and lows, possible add even a little more distortion, maybe even some crackle in the background and make it sound like it's coming out of a tiny AM radio speaker.

It's kind of an overused effect, but it could possibly work.

See if this is any better than your fix:

If it isn't let me know so I can reclaim the 4 meg space I used. I'll take it down on Tuesday unless I hear from you sooner.

Great, make sure you use this file wargasms, you now can claim on the album that Mr. Harvey Gerst worked on it also.. :D

Hehehe..

thank you Mr Gerst!...i am at work right now but i will grab this file as soon as i get home so that you can take it down

i greatly appreciate your help...

as chessrock suggested, i have tried a few effects...and they have improved the sound, but my producer still isnt satisfied with it in the mix. Im trying to track down the other artist through other friends and get it redone, but no luck as of yet.

I've only done a couple of rap/hiphop albums, but I could have done a better job on the recording side of that intro. I thought the intro was well done and I really liked the second rapper's sound. I would have used a slightly darker sounding mic.

It still has distortion problems and I'd make them redo the intro.

thanks, i am the second rapper...

yeah, it wasnt our best recording lol..i actualy think i will redo my vocals

i used a MXL v93m on the vocals with an audiobuddy preamp and a stock soundcard, but now i have an AT3035 with a M-Audio Omnistudio USB which i like a bit better.

i actually got in contact with the guy who's vocals you tried to fix...he emailed me his new phone number, so i hope we can get this redone!

That's you? Good job.

If the other guy doesn't work out, why not do both parts yourself? Get a pop filter and make sure you're not overdriving any part of the signal chain.

well actually, this is the last step in the recording of an album.

for the intro, its actually 4 of us who will be rapping, even our producer who doesnt really rap anymore.

but its just an introduction to each of us.....so people can distinguish our voices throughout the rest of the album

and listen to first track that plays...audio crack, thats a better indication of how the guys vocal quality usually sounds. he is the 1st person rapping on the song. I am the last.

he is very capable of getting a nice vocal, i just think that he had packed everything up, he was moving from Maryland to Miami, and just pulled his mic out, hooked it up and recorded with no pop filter and sent the raw wav to our producer.

Hopefully he can set up right this time if he can redo it, or he can easily get in the studio ...he moved to miami because an artist he manages was signed to Chosen Few, the first major US based reggaeton label. And he has been doing production for the label. So he is going to be in a studio down there. I think we can get it done now..

i was extremely worried because i lost touch with him for over a month! and this was all we had to proceed with...

not a good way to start off an album...matter of fact, i am going to redo my vocals as well.
