I need a basic "virtual drumming" primer

I know nothing. I need to know how many ways there are to trigger/manage virtual drums. Hardware trigger? Software? Both? Is there a site which will give me an overview?

I didn't say that to be rude. Your questions are too general/vague. How many ways are there to trigger/manage virtual drums? There's basically an infinite number of ways. A google search will give you more info than waiting for someone in here to spell it all out.
