all those drum "ring control" things really do is keep you from learning how to properly tune drums. sure you can realize some short term gains in using them, but once you learn how to tune drums you can easily make that ringing go away without using those things.

do a google search for "drum tuning bible". it's got everything you need to know.

i would advise you NOT to cut a hole in your resonant head. if you want one with a hole, go buy one with a hole. there will be times where you want the sound of a solid resonant head......plus, it's pretty easy to screw up cutting the hole.

once you get the drums properly tuned, if you want to implement some damping, get a little tub of Moongel. that stuff is excellent.

Here's what the new ex-drum machine looks like.

Wow, thats my drummers (well, ex drummers) exact kit. Same finish and everything. It was a very meaty sound, as compared to his tama rockstar kit.

He actually put two, 4" holes in his kick. He played with a double pedal with wood beaters. He used a little hole cuting device he picked up for cheap at guitar center.
