Just thought I'd share... I love it. Yes I do.

I have the 65 watt 2x12 combo version of that head, the 1/2 power tap is a cool feature indeed. Do you have the tremolo circuit in channel 2 on that one as well?

Gladly. I've got a JBL K-120 in it; when it's clean, it's very very clean. When I play my Strat through it in the #2 position the glassy sweetness of the sound will bring a tear to your eye. It also breaks up gradually from about 4 on up, and when I crank it up with my Les Paul, it's a very bad girl indeed. It is incredibly responsive to every nuance of the pick, breaks up naturally without tearing my head off, but has enough headroom for plenty of expression even at the cleanest settings.

More than anything, it's a perfect fit for me - the way(s) I play and the ensemble that I am part of.

And no, it is not for sale. Does that about cover it? ;^)

A friend had a Blackface Twin with 2 JBLs in it and you could blow out any room with it. The clean sound was really incredible!

No, this was I think one year before they started putting tremolo on. I like it a lot better than those models though. Didn't they take out the tube PI when they added trem or reverb?

Yeah he had another with the stock speakers and it would overdrive nicely-the JBLs didn't want fo overdrive much at all though....

Mr. Tortise

I'm not much of a metal guy, but FWIW, I did like Descent and the Orbit thing.

As far as the amp goes, not my style, but hey, as long as you love it, then rock on.

It was pretty much country guys using twins, because they were so clean and so freakin' loud, and rockers wanted somthing big (like a stack) and distorted. The country guys would put JBLs in 'em, because they might need loud, but they still wanted pedal-steel clean.

Be careful with a twin with JBLs, you could hurt somebody with that!

My fav is always the newest one I get my hands on. I dig my Rivera Pubster but the Ampeg I just resurected from the dumpster has a special place in my heart.

Here's one the wife brought home from a garage sale for $5. I built the box around it. It's a 1962 Silvertone (Danelectro) 1448. It's 5 watts into a 6" original speaker but I normalled a 1/4" connector so I can go into other speakers. Very cool.

Last week I got my 18 watt Marshall-Clone back from a guy who got it working right.

It had two channels, regular and tremelo.
He changed the tremelo channel to a High gain channel with a master vol. He took one of the 4 input jacks and converted it to the master vol, and turned the tremelo jack in back into channel switching (nice). So I can still use the pedal/switch.

And the other channel is a 67/68/69 era plexi type sound.

I'm going to try to build one of those.

it's totally worth it. for around 6-7 hundred you can achieve what marshall is selling for $2300.

I build the cabinet for mine, tolex, grill cloth brass vent mesh dovetailed corners and all.

How hard was the tolex to do? I've been wanting to build one for a while but I think I'll go with a head or 112 combo kit.

I got this non-toxic adhesive specially made for tolex on wood, no fumes, nice stuff.

It is a labor of love that had me TOTALY pissed at times.

I had to buy a router, and and a dovetail jig/machine. Then I had to learn to use it properly. I went through lots of wood getting it right.

With the tolex the corners are the trickiest, and the little cut outs on top for the gold piping. The most difficult is the manuvering the tolex around the vent-hole on top.

Yeah, If I had to do it all again I'd buy a cabinet from Swanson, and a kit from Ceriatone. Save a lot of headaches, but hey at least I know how to do it now.

Yea and know you have some new tools so if you ever want to make another or a set of drawers or something. :p
