I know some of you hate behringer products...

I hear you... I've been there too. Oh, and I think ND had/has a hiden agenda
which chessrock may of hit on... "Alan Hyatt must still be giving out free BJ's
for people to talk about his stuff that they've never worked with." ;)

If that's a joke, then well done, it's funny. If you're serious about me having some agenda then let's have this out - with your level of credibility I don't think you should be going around question what my agenda may or may not be.

As for Behringer, I'm currently eyeing the ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496 24-Bit/96 kHz A/D-D/A & Sample Rate Converter for only $130.

Consider this: The 8 channel ADA8000 uses 26/48 converters and it is reportedly a decent sounding unit. That's saying a lot considering you have to go through those crappy preamps before hitting the A/D converters. The SRC2496's converters an improved 24/96 type, so maybe they sound even better? Plus, there's no crappy preamps in the way!

Also, if you like to do modifications, you may be able to swap out the stock op amps and coupling caps for a much improved sound approaching RME quality for around $150!

Just thinking out loud here...

Keep thinking ... and when you figure out how to make that happen, maybe think me an email with some instructions :)

Read the specs very carefully on that Behringer sample rate converter thing, just to make sure it does what you need it to. I was considering it lately for a task in my studio, but noticed that it only will output one format at a time. So you have to choose AES or SPDIF format only, it won't send AES out the AES connector and SPDIF out the SPDIF connector at the same time. See what I mean? You choose SPDIF, and SPDIF format comes out the TOSlink, AES, and SPDIF outputs. You choose AES, and AES format comes out the TOSlink, AES, and SPDIF outputs. Kind of limits the usefulness of the unit in my opinion.

As far as that Sound Projects 8 channel preamp, I don't even think it is out yet. If it is the same one I saw at the recent NAMM show, it will be out in about 7-8 weeks. It does have nice features, but of course the sound is important too! At this point, nobody can tell you anything other than how it looks.

It's been out for about four months. I tried it at AES in October. It was pretty much impossible to tell how good it was with all the noise at the convention. It doesn't buzz or crackle though :D

hey chessrock

why do you think alan gives away free BJ's? Get yourself together, record some good, i mean good bands, all the music on your site sounds like shit....sorry, sounds like horrible engineered shit.

You should focus on your recordings not on other peoples sexual lives.

cheers

I think I'm gonna step out of the way for a little bit while the shit that just hit the fan starts being flung ...

According to Alan Hyatt, it's not out yet. I spoke with him at the NAMM show and he said 8 weeks. The production unit will also look different than the one in the picture you linked to at Zzounds. Zzounds is probably just taking pre-orders for it.
